One of the things I would have mentioned as a downfall is now a feature in my list of Pros above, and thus the mention of increasingly rich features constantly added.
I discovered Google Docs in college but never really bothered to try it until recently. Today, I use it for creating documents and spreadsheets for my professional and personal needs and my favorite thing about it is the voice-typing feature. Compared to most voice-typing software I have used, this one is quite accurate and does the job without hassle. It is also really good for transcription. How the editing mode highlights sections of documents that require adjustments makes it really easy to address editing issues without much further instructions, thereby making collaboration even easier. The UI is simple and really intuitive, and I like that it saves my documents to the drive in real-time so I do not have to schedule backups nor worry about losing my data. With Google Docs multi-platform support, I can access my documents from my mobile, tablet or PC provided as I have a decent network connection. It's a great piece of software, perhaps my favorite product from Google.
The voice-typing feature is not available offline. This is a real bummer for me because there are times when I work from places where the internet connection is bad. It would be great if the developers make the voice-typing feature available offline. Secondly, It would be really great to be able to use Google Docs for automated local folder backups.
I have been using this software since high school and find it so convenient for working collaboratively with other students with ease. I love that multiple people are able to add to and edit a document at the same time- without having to meet up with each other. It makes group projects a breeze. I also love this software for the peace of mind that it brings me because I know nothing I have on Google Docs will be lost. I often upload important documents to the software so that if something happens to my laptop I know my documents will be safe and easily found. I would recommend this software to any students- high school, college, and graduate. Outside of school, I also recommend this software for anyone planning a trip or event. When my roommates and I moved into a new house, we were able to have one list of who was bringing what supplies to our house and we were able to check off what we already had. I could be at Target and reference the list to know if we still needed a trash can without having to call them while they were busy. Google Docs has truly made my life easier!
I really do not have something I like least about this software. I like that it looks like a normal word processor but with all the added bonuses.
Google offers Google Docs as a free version of what is basically Microsoft Word. What I love most about the software is first off, that its free! To me that is a benefit, not having to pay for the software unlike Microsoft Word. Every single file that you make changes to in Docs automatically save to Google Drive every time you make a change, so if your computer for some reason crashes or shuts down, you can pick up exactly where you left off! This makes using Google Docs stress free and you don't have to constantly worry about saving your file or that the latest version of your file isn't saved. Google Drive stores each save as a separate revision, which means if you want to go back to a version you previously made you are able to do so. Google does not count Docs files toward your free space on Drive, so you can keep an unlimited number of documents and revisions - I love this feature!! Unlike Microsoft Word and most other alike software programs, Google Docs runs in a Web browser so you don't need to install software to run the program. Running Docs through the Internet makes it possible to work on any Internet or WIFI connected computer, but this presents a limitation: If you lose your Internet connection, you lose access to the program.
Like I said previously, Google Docs runs completely from the Internet, which can cause some issues with the availability to access your files, but it also provides a way to save all of your changes so you never lose any of your work! If you are in a pinch and need access to your files and have no way of connecting to the internet it can make the situation stressful - this is my biggest issue with the software.
I love that my docs sync across all my devices and anywhere I log onto the internet. I love how easy it is to use and how easily it connects to so many other things- from my email to my HP Smart scans. It makes it really easy to share documents with anyone, even those who are less technologically-inclined. I also love that multiple users can edit a document at the same time and add feedback.
The only thing that might be troublesome for people is it only saves docs when you have an internet connection. And Google doesn't have any customer service number to call. However, it's free so it's hard to complain!
Not content with merely revolutionizing e-storage in regards to Drive, Google has developed its own suite of word processing and office applications. Google Docs has the benefit of user-friendly and easy to learn word processing and spreadsheet creation (in addition to presentations and even more), with the added benefit of having the files stored on their Google Drive application. This benefit is immense in terms of both backing up data (if your computer crashes, you don't lose the file) as well as being able to easily share the files with multiple collaborators. In addition, you can access these files from any device with an internet connection. For many, Google docs is replacing "physical" word processing applications, and it's not hard to see why. You have functionality and ease of use, combined with cloud storage and Google's brand. It's also easy to download files from Drive and save them as different file formats if you need to have a "physical" copy.
Compared to word processing software that people are familiar with, initially it takes some time to get used to Google Docs, but the learning curve isn't that steep, and it's very similar in design.
I like most that my documents are automatically backed up to the cloud. If you've ever lost your work because of a hard drive failure you'll realize how nice this feature is for ensuring that you never lose your work. And, since it is backed up to the cloud that means instant access from anywhere. Even when I'm traveling I can access my documents from a client's computer - just log in and open it up!
In order to make changes to a document when collaborating other editors must have a Google account; otherwise it is just view only mode.
1. The best feature of Google Docs is online collaboration where multiple users can work together in same Document/Spreadsheet in real time. 2. You can add comment and assign action items to other colleagues. 3. It has version control feature as well, which will allow you to roll back in case something goes wrong.
1. Compared to Microsoft Office suite, you may find lesser features (like running Macros) in Google Sheet Vs Microsoft excel. Other than few add-ins, you may find most of the other features in Google. But if your work is dependent on those complex Macros and add-ins, then you may have to still purchase MS office either as software (like 2016) or Office 365 online version.
Google Docs has many advantages at the same time it also has some disadvantages. With Google Docs there is always the question on Confidentiality, Privacy etc. Google docs is not recommended in many of the Corporate environments and many bigger organizations. With Google Docs there will be a concern on 'Ownership of the data'. Google docs comes at a cost for smaller companies or startups based on their requirements. Also, Google docs provides limited features compared to other Office suite softwares.
The fact that this software is free to use for anyone is a little bit mind-blowing. If you have ever used a word processor program, then you already know how to use Google Docs. The theme application itself very closely resembles Microsoft Word, which I think most people would agree is very simple to operate, at least in its most basic functions. I really appreciate the ability to share to create and share a file with my team, all in one place. I often use Word to create documents, and the process to upload these files and share them is equally seamless. I also like that you can customize the allowable access to those with whom the file has been shared. It is nice to have real-time edit capability, and also the comment feature is very handy for facilitating creative discussion. Not to mention that you can save files, and then access them from anywhere that has internet connectivity.
Honestly I don't really have anything negative to say about it. The formatting options are a little basic, and the visual appearance is very simple, to the extent that a different word processing platform (such as Microsoft Word) looks like a much more advanced program, but in reality I don't think there is much of a difference. The thing I don't love is that anything you create is inherently in existence, in the cloud...but that is probably true of anything that isn't just written down on paper in a room without light, isn't it?
I like that I am able to know my documents are automatically saved no matter what. I also enjoy being able to easily add images or things within my work. It does not take hard work to edit your paper quickly and efficiently.
I do not like that there is not a way to cite your work as there is that feature in Microsoft word. I believe if there was that feature added more people would jump over to using google docs instead of using Microsoft word.
There were several positives to be found in the Google Docs software. One example would be the easiness surrounding sharing a document. There are options to export as a pdf, as a Word document or keep in its google docs form. The ability to share a document with other members allows for collaboration in real time and can also allow for work to be completed in modules from each person. There is seamless collaboration with other software from Google such as a Google classroom and Google Drive. Ability to see when and what changes have been made to a document makes for an easy way of telling who edited what and who must be referred to if there is uncertainty in that area.
The software feels clunky and stripped when compared to other widely used softwares such as Word. There are less features in terms of tools and layout. Inputting graphs and tables from elsewhere can also be frustrating as Docs often does not have the tools to host all aspects of a chart (at least in the way there were originally designed). Exporting to and from Word is also a challenge as the two seem to have differing ideas of what the same font looks like and there is little continuity with formatting such as bullet points and headings.
I like it because this is very friendly using software. we just need to search it on google for accessing it. also it is free and free to install. unlike other word documents in this we could easily open documents and read and write, also there are are are variety of documents in it for writing. we can download our writing document in any format,word, pdf,etc..
one thing is that i noticed, yes it shows error like spelling mistake. but sometimes when i write some words that correct like good will it shows red line under it. it also not have the feature of grammar checking, hen it would have been good for our writing. also the footnotes, when we write footnotes, in microsoft word we can put footnotes where we want and we can explain that term there. it shows the number exact on that word we write. we just need to click on that it shows the explanation there and we can easily read it. but in google docs we need to click on the word we want to explain it shows under document a space and tell us to write there. everytime we need to do that. sometimes in my own experience it costs me a little time. for footnotes explanation in google docs i need to scroll all the way down to the document. it also need more functions. we are writing, so we need more functions to make our writings more better.
One of the things I like most about Google Docs is the compatibility it offers, you can open a document from your computer, tablet or smartphone, it's amazing how you can work literally from anywhere. It offers you the alternative of using your email Gmail as a hard disk in which to share ideas, work papers, budgets, inventories, presentations, and more files, it is so simple that you just have to write the email address and that's it. In addition to this, you can work in real time with another person from anywhere in the world, it is great how you can correct the observations or notes of any work colleague. Another detail that you have to know is that it is completely free, if you want to expand the free capabilities, you can know their plans, but in my case, the free version has met all my needs since I use it I stopped using pen drives and other artifacts storage.
You put the benefits in a balance and you will realize that it has no structural aspects to improve, I have not found negative aspects to identify them. What gives me peace of mind is that the support of Google makes Google Docs is constantly reviewed and improved if there is any problem.
Google Docs has been my go to substitute for Microsoft Word for years. It makes working a breeze, if your computer crashes Google Docs automatically saves your work and you can even have multiple people working on a document at one time. In college it was easy to do a group project with others and in business it is fantastic for notes on meetings and making sure everyone knows what is on the agenda. The fact that Google provides the service for free has always been mind blowing and the amount of features they have is comparable with competitors who have the disadvantage of taking up hard drive space.
My only con with Google Docs is that sometimes it is incredibly slow. If you're copying and pasting a large amount of text it can become non-responsive for minutes at a time. When you import a document it can also take longer than desired, but this is a minor con to an otherwise great FREE product.
Instead of the traditional method of editing documents by typing using the keyboard you can use your voice through the microphone you can dictate Google Docs to write what you want accurately and distinctive in this feature that supports the number instead of the traditional way of editing documents by writing using the keyboard, You can use your voice to do this. With a microphone you can dictate Google Docs to write exactly what you want.
You can edit the document without Internet connection but this feature or feature works only on Google Chrome browser and this is a big problem This is the only negative thing in the Google Docs application
For the longest time most of us could only use Microsoft's word for various projects. You almost needed a degree from a college to even use it. So for many people they had to learn how to use Microsoft Word through various trials and errors. In another words, a lot of headaches. Most however didn't need M.S. word for extremely complicated projects. The majority of us needed it to organize our information and write it in a shareable file with others. What I like most about Google Docs is that its Free and yet still has almost all of the same functionality as Microsoft's Word. It is completely seamless and integrates with Google Drive. So uploading and sharing important documents is as simple as creating a file (and link) and emailing it.
Some of the drawbacks with Google Docs is that it does not have some of the more advance features as excel. For example it has most of the basic editing tools as M.S. word like tables, rulers and text notes. Advanced features such as Macros or Mail merger wont be found.

First of all I like Google Docs because it is easy to be a Google product and be easy to add other tools like calendar, google Drive etc. Another function I like is that the Software allows you to determine which individuals or groups can edit or view the file. Google Docs offers complete tools for creating, editing, and sharing work files. They are choices that perfectly fit the demands of modern offices, with remote teams and the need to work from the smartphone when I need to.
Although the system is able to open documents in the Office extension, allowing them to be edited by conversion. I Note that compatibility does not always support the various features of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
I love how easy it is to collaborate with people - all you need to do is invite them via email, or give them a link to share and they'll be able to edit the same document in real time as you. It's also somewhat open, allowing for outside plugins to be used, making my life a lot easier with certain tasks (like for writing math equations, there's a LaTeX plugin). Documents are also accessible anywhere, and I can create unlimited documents with Google Drive. The software has all the features I need, from the styling of tables to integration with Google Sheets.
I have two main complaints: first, I can't add my own fonts. I understand that they need the copyright in order to use the fonts, but it can be annoying to have to download a document as a Word file and then change the text. Second, when I create a new document then start titling it, it'll type a few characters into the title, then start typing in the body, although this is a minor annoyance.
Google docs has made working somuch easier on any device. Editing, sharing or typing has been easier than ever. Love the share through a link feature which is my most liked feature as like old days you dont have to share an attachment by mail. Making common lsits and questionaire with many people has become so much easier. Collecting data has become so much easier. Love the voice input feature for fast typing and can be corrected later.Love the new format where document thumbnails are large and easy for everybody to find any document visually scrolling through the files.
Google Docs is a good product and there aren't many flaws compared to other paid options. Firstly the upload and download of files can be a bit better. Would like if a new ergonomic design for browsing through the files be there.Another feature which while using need to be cautious is sharing files with editing rights which can have the potential to lose the existing data on the file vulnerable to being lost.
As a classroom teacher using Google Docs has allowed me to quickly disseminate information, projects and reports to students in colleagues with a simple click. Copying and pasting especially from a word document is easy and important being that I am more proficient with word than Doc. Using Docs in conjunction with other programs such as Google Classroom has afforded me the chance to submit different Google Docs to different groups of people very quickly. All of this is done while organizing these different docs in Google Drive.
The draw back to Google Docs is that it isn't as user friendly when creating a document that involves images and captions embedded in the page. Additionally it is a bit more involved when attempting to subdivide the page into various fields for the purpose of creating for example a pamphlet type product. When attempting to create a field the user is brought to a drawing page with a field dedicated to the information you are developing. Often it hard to determine where this field will be placed on the Doc page once you have finished and deciding to edit you creation has its own problems. It would be helpful if the program were more user friendly in the creation of these different fields of different size that would allow the inclusion of images and captions of various font size and color.

Hard to find fault to be honest. Googledocs does not have the same levels of editorial/presentational functions as something like Word. But I don't mind as its main use for me is as a collaborative platform. It does this brilliantly.
The most convenient software for preparing documents anywhere anytime especially for students and professional. I have been using this application since my university. The most precious thing is it helps you to access and edit your important document whether you are at home or college or office etc. As well as it supports any device(mobile/tablets) to use your documents or reports using google drive which is really beneficial to professionals. Google docs are easily shareable with any person. Therefore multiple persons can access and edit the same document concurrently. This feature of google docs is really valuable for team works or people who are working under one project to share their ideas in one place at the same time
When comparing to MS word, some features are missing in the google docs for preparing an appealing document or report. Some issues can seem when you are formatting your documents by using mobile devices. Specially pasting some contents to your docs.
I love that I can use Google Docs across all my platforms. I can start a document on my phone, flip over to my tablet or laptop and pick up right where I left off. I don't have to worry about saving as it does it for me, automatically. Another amazing feature is the ability to still use this offline - you're not restricted. Pro tip: I've used Google docs in a shared environment with other people in a project - we can each add to the document and it allows for open communication between us without having to be in the same room. It's great for class projects or work projects. I have a friend who uses it with her husband for DnD campaigns, they keep all their notes in one document and add to it as they go. Exporting the documents is also straightforward and easy and any formatting you need to do is provided for you as well. Very versatile.
I was resistant to using it at first as I was most familiar with Word and InDesign. However after using Google Docs, I've switched completely to it. It's just so user friendly and easy and allows me to work on my writing on the go which I didn't have as an option before. I don't have anything to complain about regarding it.

It's always improving, either in response to features that comparable software (MS Word, Open Office) has added or in response to user requests. We asked for columns; they gave it to us. It's quite user-friendly and works well with imports and exports from/to MS Word. This is extremely important to me because I'm a Chromebook user so Google Docs is all my laptop uses but when I download a copy in MS Word to upload assignment submissions for my doctoral courses, it works perfectly. I'm actually doing my entire dissertation in GoogleDocs. I love that you can look up the version history- it makes it easy to find any missing text from an accidental deletion or misedit, and also to track who did what if everyone is signed in with a Gmail account.
Nothing, really. Even if features don't exist, there's nearly always a free Add-On via the Chrome store. For example, I wanted a quick way to turn text into alternate capitalization types (all lowercase, all uppercase, title case, invert, etc.) I found a quick add-on and I have a short-cut. I've also added add-ons like a more extensive chart builder for in-text charts and tables and a Word Cloud Generator, which not only creates an image but gives me a word count of each word occurrence to help me do text analysis.
There are several reasons why I like this software. Let's start with Ease of Use. It's very straightforward and simplistic user interface makes learning how to use Google Docs a breeze. Next, is the ability to use Google Docs from anywhere there is access to the Internet. There is nothing to download or install and Google Docs is cross platform compatible, meaning it works on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, ChromeOS. All you need is a Web Browser. And if that wasn't enough goodness, you can use it on iOS and Android smartphones. Everything you need right at your fingertips and best of all, it's FREE! Microsoft requires a subscription and renewals to keep the service active for continued use. No thanks, Microsoft. I think I will stay with Google Docs for all of my word processing, spreadsheets... all connected to my Google Drive account makes everything so much easier to access, edit, save and store.
While is may not be an issue for me or within my organization, Google Docs does not work on Windows based devices like Blackberry. Other than that, I cannot provide any other 'cons' so to speak.
First of all, one of my favorite features that enticed me into solely using Google Docs as my preferred word processor was the convenience of accessing documents from anywhere with an Internet connection. It is also a feat to be able to create a document that is identical in appearance and features as Microsoft Word. Secondly, It makes group collaborating and remote work easy and possible. In a traditional setting, you need to send over a document, wait for someone to mark it up and then send it back for changes. With Google Docs you can share the document, and make it modifiable so that the other party can edit. The original creator and collaborator will be able to see any changes in real-time. Lastly, Google Docs has add-on features which allow users to find third-party apps such as esignatures and integrate into their document.
I can't think about any cons of using Google Docs. I consider that for me, it is a useful tool that I use on a daily basis. The only negative aspects I suppose is that to share documents with someone they also need to have a Google account.
Google Docs will unfortunately always be considered as "Word lite" because it will never be able to catch up to the feature rich Microsoft Word. Having said that, it's a known fact that most users will only use a small percentage of features available in Microsoft Word and Google Docs have captured majority of those needed features. So as long as you're not a "power Word" user creating design rich documents, Google Docs will have no problem functioning as a basic Word Processor.
Docs has seamless sharing features found no where else, the document updates in real time to show what other people are doing with the document, as well as settings to control others permissions.
Some features that paid word processors have are missing, the extensive document layout options in Microsoft word are not apparent, but in most cases I find that a lot of features in Microsoft word are only used in very specific circumstances. Whilst that some good Microsoft word features aren't in Google Docs, you can usually find an add-on for that exact thing.
The ease of use and the auto-backup of all my work it provides. Also simultaneous multi-user co-operation it allows, with different levels of access that could be assigned, permitting to keep the authoritative control over the document, yet creating easy feedback ecosystem. I also like the equation functionality and the TeX recognition it provides. Finally, its compatibility with other document formats.
The significantly decreased editing & formatting functionality when compared to Microsoft Word — for academic work it is very visible for Headers and Footnotes, where the formatting options are extremely limited. Then, when it comes to bibliographies, Google Docs lacks a very basic function, i.e. alphabetization.
Incredibly easy document creation, collaboration, and sharing. Zero learning curve to create meeting minutes, take notes, co-author reports or policies, or any number of other content-creation tasks. Tagging people and adding action items is fast and efficient. Works great if folks are on the Gmail domain and almost as well if they are not. It's Google, so you know the search works. Automatic outlining in the left pane is a nice feature.
Too many overlapping services (Docs and Drive e.g.) make it confusing to navigate and find files again. Spreadsheets made in Sheets do not appear in search results on docs.google.com. Google throws out conventions (heirarchical folders with detail columns) in favor of "recent docs" which makes it challenging to find the file you need if it is older or not frequently accessed. Permissions and sharing settings are quick to set up initially, but are not intuitive or straightforward to modify.It is easy for multiple users in the organization to do "what works" and make a mess of document ownership and sharing, and not find out until later. I would like to be able to sort files by name, or date ascending, or otherwise browse. A very common frustration is "Where is that file?? (who owns it, who's drive is it in, where on earth did it save to?)" On a good day, it just happens. On a bad day, who knows. Nonprofits, which subsume all those services and more - b

My favorite thing about Google Docs is that I can work on a document with a client across the country, see the same things at the same time as though we were in the same room at the same computer hashing out the details. I love how easy it is to create a document (like a 'how to' procedural for your team), store it in your Google Drive, share it with the team, and they all have access to it anytime from their drives.Not only that, but if you have to change it, you just can, and everyone will see the changes the next time they open it. You can choose to allow them to edit it, or restrict their access to viewing only. You don't have to have an endless stream of emails with a new attachment, no new file versions to override, links to change, or downloads to remove. You edit it where it exists, and you're done! There is even an app for your phone that is great for little updates on the fly. You could, in all honesty, write an entire document on your phone in the app, but if you have that much to do, I still recommend getting on a computer.
It needs a workflow/approval process/document status set of features for teams. There are third-party options that are overly complicated, bloated, and a mess, so it would be much nicer if Google would add those features. While it isn't as robust as Microsoft Word, it does give Word a run for its money and allows you to do so for free, and without installing any software on your device.

Hiearchy levels for administration can be a usefull feature on near future. iOS app not very good. Needs new UI.
The easy ability to share and collaborate on Google Docs is perhaps the strongest feature of this word processing software. We've needed to make important changes under time pressure, and the fact that we can do so while avoiding the "email dance" is invaluable.
While MS Office compatibility is decent (including the ability to edit DOCX files without leaving the Google environment), MS Word continues to dominate in useful and robust features. MS Office is too omnipresent to have to work in two environments.
It does what it says it will, and is consistent and functional. It also integrates well with Google Apps, making it easy to administer and update.
If something goes wrong, which it rarely does, you've got nobody to really talk to. Some folks have issues learning how to use it due to Microsoft's domination of the market for so long. Desktop-oriented folks have some conceptual difficulties learning to use it effectively.
Because of Google docs, I don't have to install an offline software for document editing. Plus I can access and share these documents with my clients, teammates, and other people. Also, It possesses all the functionalities that I used in an offline software. In fact, I can use all the online fonts without even installing them on my PC. One of the best things about Google Docs is addons that it offers. If you want to add extra features to your Google docs, you can do this by adding add-ons.
The only negative about Google Docs is limited storage. It only offers 15GB in its free plan. After that, You have to purchase additional storage.
I love that it's free and connected with your Google account. You can log out and log in to any computer and have access to your document. It's not tied to a specific software. Even better is that it auto-saves progress. I've had SO problems in the past with my computer or even user error and I'd accidentally exit out. I'd have lost ALL progress I did which would frustrate me so much.
Something minor that I personally don't like but may be helpful for other people is that when you click to even view a document, it bumps up the document at the top of the page. It seems to do it for organizational purposes but I want all things I specifically work on to be on top. It's an automatic thing and sometimes I just need to view the documents and have those listed towards the bottom of the page. The documents I'm currently working on need to be at the top of the page. A little inconvenience but not a horrible feature.
What I like the most about this software is the feature - autosave. This feature has enabled users to save their documents file in drive or even offline. Hence, this feature has reduced the risks where documents will be unsaved when the browser is either on the offline condition or even sudden shutdown.
The formatting style of other docs files created by offline software like WPS or Word is difficult to duplicate in Google Docs. This has affected the performance as it takes a long time for readjusting the format again. In other words, we make the formatting job redundantly, from adjusting in WPS or Word and then readjust in Google Docs for Team Work.
The fact that its entirely free to use if you have a valid google account. What I also like is the fact that you can edit documents that was created on another software not related to Google Docs. You can easily save and share the files with others, and the simultaneous editing makes this tool fantastic to use as a team.
Sometime it may be difficult to correctly paste or insert certain elements in a document as the document may not scale correctly, but this does not happen often.
My main reason for loving Google Docs these days is that it's a cloud-based service. No software to download taking up unnecessary space and all my docs are saved in a cloud, not on my system. The other reason is that it's free. You don't have to pay a ton of money to download the full software package or pay a monthly fee to use it. We are charged for so many things now that to use something that is basically used by everyone at some time during their workday or school day, we shouldn't be charged. Google docs are free and only have to pay for add on's which are usually minimal in price. In most cases, you don't need any add on's but for business use, I do use add ons for the Sheets.
I don't like their organizational methods for organizing docs in folders. I've had issues with things being misfiled and have to search for them. I also dislike that when you upload a document and then create a document from that document, you now have 2 documents instead of just one that has been edited. It makes things confusing at times figuring out which is which.
Firstly, Google Docs is so easy for my students to use. For many of them, this is there first exposure to writing online and typing. I grew up with Microsoft Office, specifically Word, but with today's youth, computers and laptops are mere means to play games and post pictures. Google Docs is a wonderful way to get my students started with and used to writing, revising, and editing something longer than a Tweet. They enjoying having the freedom to learn the functions and exploring fonts and I enjoy the fact that they're writing and learning to use a software that they will be using for the majority of their lives.
I dislike that some of the features I have on my pc does not always transfer over into Docs. For example, a font I used may disappear because it's unknown to the program, or when I download a PowerPoint into my Docs to show my class later a slide may be change or just gone. It's not a critical flaw - I just take a little extra time to compensate with Docs.
The ease of use and the auto-backup of all my work it provides. Also simultaneous multi-user co-operation it allows, with different levels of access that could be assigned, permitting to keep the authoritative control over the document, yet creating easy feedback ecosystem. I also like the equation functionality and the TeX recognition it provides. Finally, its compatibility with other document formats.
The significantly decreased editing & formatting functionality when compared to Microsoft Word — for academic work it is very visible for Headers and Footnotes, where the formatting options are extremely limited. Then, when it comes to bibliographies, Google Docs lacks a very basic function, i.e. alphabetization.
Really easy to use, intuitive, and easily accessible across platforms. It is my favorite collaborative work space for writing/editing documents as a group and sharing spreadsheets. You can share individual documents or entire folders. I love how easily you can organize things into folders if you're that type of person, or if you want to leave everything "loose", you can easily use the search function and find the document or sheet you are looking for. I am a big fan of the automatic save function, as well as being able to review and revert to any previous version of a document. I appreciate the gmail integration, such that with just a click, I can save a gmail attachment to my google drive and even organize it into folders. The option of making docs available offline is also a lifesaver and lets me work without security worries in airports and public spaces without having to connect to unsecured wifi and on airplanes.
The only downside that I've encountered is that some people do not have personal google accounts, which can make it slightly tricky to collaborate with them outside of work settings (such as PTA).
I love Google Docs more and more that I have used it through the years. It provides a free way to edit and create documents that can be accessed from any device securely and shared with other collaborators. It provides everything that you would expect from a document editor but far more. Things such as revision history so you can see snapshots of almost ANY edits made by you or your team and revert if necessary. You can download a copy to send in any format needed including pdf and for those married to Word that too. You can edit the same document as someone else at the same exact moment. It autosaves while working so no more surprises if your laptop shuts off. It's been a solid editor and my go-to for almost everything document related.
In all honesty there isn't much bad that I can say about Google Docs. They've done an awesome job with the product through the years. I have not really ran into anything that i wanted to do and couldn't with the software. If i had to pick one thing... maybe the ability to encrypt a document??? that would be awesome.
I've been using this software for years now and have migrated ALL of my Microsoft word documents to Google Docs because I can access it from anywhere, on any computer, smartphone or tablet as long as there is an internet connection. This makes my life WAY easier. I love how it has the same features as MSWord and how I can share it publicly or privately with other email addresses. And I love the "sections" adding by new title sections in the document making it easy to navigate. I also love the template designs which speeds up the process very fast. And it's great other team members can be allowed to edit a document.
Two things only, even though I limit members from copying or printing, they still take screenshots of sensitive material. Perhaps adding a "NDA Agreement" section would help so sensitive material is not abused. Also, I have about a dozen different emails but it can be hard to remember or navigate to each docs sometimes, especially after stated "signed into too many accounts" which slows me down and makes matters confusing. If there was a way to make this easier to navigate, that would be awesome. I guess allowing other team members that edit a document to be easily distinguishable to who edited what would be highly beneficial as well.
Google Docs is what we use to share notes and documents with the team. It's very easy to use and learn. It shows real-time changes to the text and shows exactly who's working on the file, and shows who's opening the file. It's safe to use and it's cloud-based, which saved everything automatically and makes it easy to access files from anywhere. Unlike great other tools, it doesn't need installation, since you can run it from anywhere in the world. It's also easy to organize and categorize the documents you create, keeping them in folders. The level of control you give to co-workers or whoever you share the file with is great and keeps everything under control. You can choose the level of control you give to everyone, who can view the file, who can view and edit, etc... Doesn't cost anything extra since it comes with G-Suite.
Again, like all the great services by Google, being cloud-based could go both ways, it's a pro and a con, but could be a con only if you need to work offline. Also, formatting to PDF files needs some improvement. Could be risky if your password isn't that strong and you're saving sensitive information on it.
The formatting options are somewhat limited. They are not as powerful as other dedicated softwares are. You cannot save your own format template (example: your personal combination for “title 1” format, your preference for line spacing..); the most you can do is to set all these preferences in one document and duplicate it every time you need to use that.
I like google docs because I no longer have to worry about installing resource intensive Document, Spreadsheet or Presentation applications. I can still open and view my crucial documents online for free with google docs. I can even create or edit new docs and also go the other way i.e open them with most popular Office products like MS Office or Libre Office. I love its ability to save my work automatically on the fly so I'm always up to date. Google docs allows me to also control who can view my work and provides impressive collaborative functionality in real time on the same document and not in traditional way of passing around a document tracking changes. You can actually see someones cursor and their name making the changes! Its like being in the same room. I can save my work to my google drive and be assured that my data is safe and accessible anytime anywhere 99.9% of the time.
The features in Google docs are not as flexible and extensive as a full blown standalone office application so this may be a turn off. You will not have the same workflows that you are used to while viewing, creating or editing a document because you will be in a browser environment. However it provides enough features for the price.
It has the same issues that other document editors have unfortunately. Mostly anything related to images and tables is a nightmare to deal with. You add an image, move it a little bit, everything is moved all over the place and everything is in ruins. This is probably due to user error but it happens so often and quickly and there is not really any indication what you did wrong so you can't really learn from your mistakes which means you will probably keep making them and everything is going to be ruined again the next time you try to do anything with images.
I love in Google Docs previewing and saving changes in real time - there is no situation, that I forget to save something and close the document or turn off the computer - everything is automatically saved.
As I mention before, Google Doc works in our browser. Obviously, we can't edit documents, in the same way as we can do in programs that are created for this.
As a writer, the feature I like most about Google Docs is the ease with which I can structure a piece of content using the Styles menu. I can simply choose Title, Heading 1, Heading 2, etc. and create headings and subheadings throughout my document automatically. If I decide I need to change a header to a subheader, I can do it quickly and easily. And the view document outline feature is great too. It populates automatically based on the headings and subheadings you use as you create your document. This feature makes it easy to see if I've covered all the important sub topics.
The only thing I found took a bit of getting used to is the fact that you don't have to save your file when you are done working on it. But once you get used to that idea, it's fine. Google Docs will make your writing life so much easier.
Google docs is the best text pad app I have used so far which is built for writing and to create content based projects and tasks. It is very similar to Microsoft word and it has most of its features too. The best feature of this app is that its advanced accessibility. Google docs can be accessed from any geographical location via any device. Also multiple users can have access to the doc and also you can control who can view and who can edit its content which gives you the authority to control its accessibility and privacy.
The interface and the user friendliness is indeed an added advantage however it would have been great if there are more templates to choose from.
Not content with merely revolutionizing e-storage in regards to Drive, Google has developed its own suite of word processing and office applications. Google Docs has the benefit of user-friendly and easy to learn word processing and spreadsheet creation (in addition to presentations and even more), with the added benefit of having the files stored on their Google Drive application. This benefit is immense in terms of both backing up data (if your computer crashes, you don't lose the file) as well as being able to easily share the files with multiple collaborators. In addition, you can access these files from any device with an internet connection. For many, Google docs is replacing "physical" word processing applications, and it's not hard to see why. You have functionality and ease of use, combined with cloud storage and Google's brand. It's also easy to download files from Drive and save them as different file formats if you need to have a "physical" copy.
Compared to word processing software that people are familiar with, initially it takes some time to get used to Google Docs, but the learning curve isn't that steep, and it's very similar in design.
I love that Google Docs works the same on every computer across every device. We are a digital marketing agency and we interact with upwards of 30-40 documents a day - all on Google Docs. Working in Google Docs with a variety of clients means that every client can access and interact with our documents without worrying about any features their version of a software may be lacking. Likewise, we can count on knowing that any changes our clients make in Google Docs will be reflected accurately on our end because their version of the app is the same as ours.
The worst part of Google Docs is that it lacks many major features available via other word processing programs. In addition, it lacks the ability to interact with certain aspects of a document via browser that are native to the browser experience overall. For instance, if you upload an image to your Google Doc, you are unable to download the image without actually downloading a full HTML zip file of the document and then extracting the images from the directory. Very frustrating.

With a microphone you can dictate Google Docs to write exactly what you want.
You can edit the document without Internet connection but this feature or feature works only on Google Chrome browser and this is a big problem This is the only negative thing in the Google Docs application

There are very few cons to this software:
First of all, one of my favorite features that enticed me into solely using Google Docs as my preferred word processor was the convenience of accessing documents from anywhere with an Internet connection. It is also a feat to be able to create a document that is identical in appearance and features as Microsoft Word. Secondly, It makes group collaborating and remote work easy and possible. In a traditional setting, you need to send over a document, wait for someone to mark it up and then send it back for changes. With Google Docs you can share the document, and make it modifiable so that the other party can edit. The original creator and collaborator will be able to see any changes in real-time. Lastly, Google Docs has add-on features which allow users to find third-party apps such as esignatures and integrate into their document.
I can't think about any cons of using Google Docs. I consider that for me, it is a useful tool that I use on a daily basis. The only negative aspects I suppose is that to share documents with someone they also need to have a Google account.
There has been upgrades on the features in google docs - an online version of Word for folks to collaborate on online. The cool features that I liked best that I could add a table of contents on the navigation sidebar. My reader will be able to click through the headers so they can drill down to the content they want to read. The feature to suggest changes is also nice because I can suggest changes to my colleagues' work without editing anything. Google has also allowed us to tag people when we leave comments! Have you also looked at the feature: Voice Typing (?!) Can't speak to how accurate speech recognition is but that is hella cool!
Because it's on a web browser, I wouldn't be able to work on google docs if I do not have access to the internet which makes it hard to do work when I travel. Perhaps google docs can implement an offline version? Sometimes, opening up a word document with google docs is a pain because all the formatting goes way off.

It is more sensitive to firewall rules and needs to be tweaked to be used correctly in a secure environment. If you are using docs on separate systems you need to make sure that synchronization is workings perfectly. You may be working on a super important document in the office and expect to go home and complete the work only to find out when you get home that the new version you were working on in the office was not synchronized. intermittent sync issues can happen more frequently to the user that is changing wifi or wired connections often. This mobility can affect synchronization and create issues.

I use Google Docs multiple times a day, from writing reports at work, to even planning out personal events. I can safely say Google Docs is the most convenient document-writing software I've ever used. It only takes a few clicks to share a document with a coworker, and sharing a document allows for them to directly add input into your document. Also, because Google Docs has an auto-save feature I never have to worry about accidentally losing my work. One of my favorite benefits to Google Docs is how it's possible to access documents offline. This allows for me to work even when internet is not available, such as on an airplane, which saves me a lot of time and helps me get things done.
There are not many cons to Google Docs. The only minor inconvenience I can think of that has to do with Docs is that it is slightly difficult to create bulleted or numbered lists in certain formats. For example, I am unable to create a numbered list without tabbed spacing in between the number and the beginning of the line. Other than that, though, Google Docs is absolutely amazing.
Google Docs so valuable to me due to its simplicity and ease of use. When I first switched to Docs, the simple design of the web interface and the intuitive nature of the Google Drive website which it is integrated inside enabled me to easily adopt a new environment without too much confusion. The almost minimalist design of the document editor ensured that new users were not overwhelmed, but also that veteran users would not be cluttered with options. Docs, also available on android and iOS, made switching between my desktop, laptop, and phone for work convenient and smooth. I didn't have to waste time uploading and downloading files; I just needed a web-browser or an app. Consequently, Docs has been an integral part of my workflow for years, as Docs brings a level of intuitiveness that I have never experienced in any other application I have worked with.
One issue I've had with Docs is the scalability of the editor. While Docs is smooth and works well for small projects, documents which approach a hundred pages or greater often slow down or behave awkwardly. I rarely work with documents of such great size, but scaling Docs to be able to handle those cases will allow it to truly dominate over its competitors.
There is hardly anything to say in the way of cons. However, on certain browsers (such as Safari), I've been unable to past text without formatting. I commonly pull snippets of information from emails, other documents, etc. and it is a slight inconvenience to paste the formatted text and then have to reset it. I don't have this issue at all with Chrome, so in all likelihood it's an issue with the browser!
I don't like the limited feature set. There are commands that are difficult to execute (e.g. Small Caps, Imaging, columns control, etc.). There is also only a limited number of hot keys available with this software. MS Word is MUCH more robust in the hotkeys sector. I'm not totally sure if these issues are due to my lack of knowledge,or if they are a software deficiency, but I've not managed to achieve the results that I can achieve in MS Word. So to that degree, Google Docs is lacking.
I love Google Docs. Whether it be Google Docs (think Word), or Google Sheets (Think Excel) or Google Slides (think Powerpoint) they are great and you can create your documents in the cloud in Google Drive too. Think of an ecosystem of software and so much more. They can be shared with groups, have excellent functionality, and can be used by multiple people. Also, one of the things I like best about this software is if your computer dies it picks right back up where you left off and you never have to save your work. Google Docs is the real deal.
The thing I probably like least about this software is that while you can convert it to a normal word document you may lose the formatting. You're better off not doing so and doing a quick copy paste job. Also, I would like to see it more widely used but then again I think Microsoft and Apple would like to see the same with their software.
1) As desktop application is available it is easy to use as a file directory on PC and can be used worldwide on the go.
I hate the most is about its space limits as per their User licences cost which is charged on monthly basis.If we are full of space we have to upgrade the user/monthly licence for whole team but not singly. Which means a big amount will be charged for a small space if u need more.
What I enjoy most is that it's free. It wasn't too long ago when the word processing programs were only on the local hard drive rather than in the cloud. I believe that running Google Docs as a program that connects to the cloud enables customers ease of access. No matter where someone is, they can access Docs once connected to the internet. I have a Chromebook and at first I thought it would be an inconvenience having to connect online most times. However, usage of the cloud has become more understood through the years but many people don't understand it completely even still. With the option to download the files and work on the files offline I'd say that Docs is at the top of the Word Processor world. Sharing files and editing them all at once with a research team at school is also a plus. While utilizing this feature I have finished school work in groups in excellent timing.
I would like to see more Template documents in Google Docs. This service is free of charge however even if Google provided a large library of template documents at a monthly charge or a small fee for each file, this would be amazing.
Google docs is the easiest way to collaborate with others on a document. No longer so I have to worry about who saved what and I never need to text or phone someone to "get out of the document" so that I can edit it. I am able to see the changes made to the document in real time and the suggestions rather than straight edits. Additionally, it's not so much different than using MS Word so the learning curve is minor. If you really have to share the document outside of google, you can email it from within GoogleDocs or download it as a .docx so you can still use older methods of collaboration if you have to.
The only issue I see is every once in awhile, someone won't be able to edit the document very well. We've yet to troubleshoot this to see if it's a bandwidth issue or perhaps a browser plugin that's interfering. But this issue is rare.
What I like is that Google Docs is in the cloud which makes it accessible from anywhere. Because all of my work and personal documents are on Google Docs, all I need to work is internet access. Collaborating with others is made easy. Google Docs allows me to manage sharing permissions and lets others comment, suggest, or write directly on the document in real time this is a great feature which I must mention. We can work together and at the same time on the same document, updating it for each other. It also makes it much easier to share opinions with the click of a button.
Because of using other word processing applicaiton such as MS Word, Google Docs does not have all the features as word. This forces me to create work arounds for commonly used features, such as columns (in Google Docs I just create a table). Since I have used Google Docs as my only word processor for so long, I do not miss these features but it can take some getting used to. I have gotten used to not doing with some of these other feature, no longer a big deal.
