I'm able to do my job much more efficiently using this suite of products
I like that I can do nearly anything I'd like to do with this software from minimal viewing to mass editing and geoprocessing quickly and efficiently.
I don't like the p[ay structure for the 'named user' model that is being implemented. I think there should be a free named user and a pool of concurrent licenses that can be used at any given time by certain users.

I am able to pull the data we needed for zoning students.
I am able to pull any data I need as long as I have it in there. Good Data in, Good Data Out. As long as I added the correct data to the system I can manipulate it and format it any way i desire.
You need a pretty beefy system to run the software. This has been my only complaint. The Rendering time for the amount of roads I deal with is pretty extensive when I am on a system that is low on resources.

My use of ArcGIS has ranged from an academic setting - where I was trained to use the product - to using it for mapping water pipelines in the water utility industry. The software is incredibly effective and can handle just about any map product that someone wants to make. However, it does require time and effort to become a master of ArcGIS and it cannot be accomplished in a few hours.
If you can dream it up, ArcGIS allows you to do it. This software has every function imaginable. Plus, it's super easy to input and export data. One major thing that makes it the best software and the most widely used, is how easy it is to combine different maps together into one product. During graduate school, I worked on a map with a couple classmates combining data to create a map of Nigeria that featured hospital locations, sites of conflict, and areas of concern for food security. We had an incredibly easy time inserting all the data, generating a map that looked how we wanted it to look, and correctly labeling all the different pieces of information.
You need to know what you're doing before you use this software. Make sure to either watch some YouTube videos, invest in a textbook that teaches you how to use the software, or hire an individual who has experience with the product in an academic or professional setting. While you really can do anything you want with the software, it does require some knowledge to be able to achieve the desired end result. If you forget how a certain function works, make sure to doube check how to do it and do not wing it because you can very easily mess up the map product (one classmate of mine did this and deleted her entire map that took three months to build).
I use this software everyday for all of my spatial analysis needs.
I like the power this software provides for data and spatial analysis. The latest versions include the most popular data analysis python libraries.
The cost of this software is prohibitive for many organisations. There are free open source alternatives (e.g. QGIS) which offer many of the same features which may be more attractive to small organisations.

In the subject of GIS and spatial planning ArcGIS has an strong influence. User friendly platform makes it easier to work and easy to understand the concepts behind the tools
I have been working with Esri products such as ArcGIS desktop, Server and portal for more than 4 years. Products have wide range of functionalities and have very supportive backends. Help manuals and online esri forums provide detail information on each tool. ArcGIS desktop has the wide range of capabilities and tools which can help to solve almost every spatial problems. Specially model builder and the integrity of python provides the facility to automate the multiple tasks. There are opportunities to customize the tools as we preferred which let us to built our own tool with the help of python. GUI of ArcGIS provides user friendly working platform, specially ArcGIS catalog provide easy way to access the wide range of spatial data with the help of interperobility extension. Server for ArcGIS and portal provides total solutions for sharing the geographical data via effective user and device friendly platforms.
It would cost reasonable amount to get all features and full benefits from ArcGIS products. Even it has perpetual licecnse, we have to pay for the upgrades.

There is so much that the software can do that it really has become an essential tool for me. I have overall been very pleased with the features and capabilities of ArcGIS. I am constantly learning new ways to use GIS!
The versatility of ArcGIS is incredible. In my day-to-day work, I use GIS to create anything from basic tag maps to sediment concentration interpolations that help inform remedial designs.
Depending on server speed, computer processing, and amount of data in your map, ArcGIS can certainly get bogged down and can become frustrating to navigate.

I have been using ArcGIS for a year now. I am a master student studying Environmental Sciences and in this field it is very important to be able to work with geographic information systems. Although I learned a few similar software, I prefer working on ArcGIS when I have to work with maps and geographic information. The reason why I prefer ArcGIS to the other similar software is it is easier to learn as a beginner (from my personal experience). In our department at my university, we sometimes have to create maps or work with mapped information. I like how easy it is to add different geographic data collected from different sources in order to make comparisons. The software enables you to create your own map layout providing you with various features and designs. I usually work with environmental maps showing the ecological problems on my map layout for my research projects. If you design your final map properly making use of the features ArcGIS provides you with, you can make your final output look very good and simple to be understood by even people who are not professionally ArcGIS users.
As a student I am allowed to use the computers that have ArcGIS with its license at my university and its libraries. However, I cannot use it on my personal PC at home or wherever I am, since the software is extremely unaffordable for an average student I believe. What I also dislike about the software is it gives me a lot of errors when I work with larger scale while I do not get my results have as many errors when I work with smaller scales.

Overall experience is very good. It helps me to teach students "how to make maps" both offline and online.
I like spatial data processing and spatial analytical tools offered by ArcGIS desktop. These tools help me to perform numerous spatial statistical analyses including spatial auto-correlation, hotspot mapping, etc.
With big datasets, specially rasters, it takes a lot of time (often days) to finish an analysis. For example, if I want to resample raster data of the United States, it takes more than a day to run on my desktop. I wish this processing/calculation time could be made faster!

I use ArcGIS daily for my job. It's highly customisable to suit many applications.
ArcGIS has a huge amount of spatial analysis and cartographic tools. Esri was founded in 1969 and they continue to lead the way.
The software is very expensive, particularly the enterprise software and isn't suitable for everyone. The open source alternative, QGIS, is on par with ArcGIS and would be better for small organisations who may not have the budget.

The ArcGIS the best mapping software available considering all available options, level of presentation and clarity of content. It is much easier to get used to compared to most open source software. Once you have gotten used to handle your files between Arc Catalog - Arc Toolbox - Arc Map components, you will notice how easy it is to organize all. The other reason that almost all the academic bodies are recommending this software is the extreme reliability and good customer support. Even with a large number of open software packages available, ArcGIS still leads the pack with some considerable advantages to its users.
ArcGIS is the Industry Standard among all available GIS Platforms out there. The ArcMap-ArcToolBox-ArcCatalog combination offers solutions for all your GIS needs. The Software stands out among the others mainly due to its very clear representation of data that suit for any kind of presentations. Also, the map composer of ArcGIS has become the industry standard that is used by many higher education bodies, universities and professional organizations.
The Software package is not cheap but it doesn't mean it is not worth it. The people who can afford it will definitely have access to the best platform that the money can buy.

Upon gaining a good knowledge of the software, the ability to transform data into information that is usable and intelligent makes ArcGIS not just a tool but a tool that transforms information in new ways and illustrates such information in a logical and intelligent manner.
Illustrates geographical data on a platform that not only provides a simple map but also allows for the creation of information in a dynamic way for all sorts of purposes. Multiple sources of information can be utilised to create meaningful information for a specific outcome. It is a tool that creates new tools to expand data into information that can be manipulated and transformed continuously.
It can be expensive, however, the functionality of the software and its use within the company does mitigate the costs as to reasonably priced. Otherwise, not much to complain about as it is a software that is above the rest.

I use ArcGIS on a weekly basis as an urban planning consultant to graphically show and analyze data, including demographic trends, transportation modeling scenarios, employment trends, and basic area mapping. Without ArcGIS, my job would be much more difficult and it would be much harder to display spatial data for the deliverables we create.
The ability to do hardcore spatial data analysis relatively easily is a huge benefit. Being able to produce high quality maps is great for my work as an urban planner. The functionality is seemingly endless and as a avid user for the past 5 years, there are still aspects of GIS that I have yet to learn. Finally, the ability to export maps to other formats is very helpful from a graphic design standpoint and allows me to modify the maps in graphic focused software to further enhance the look.
This software is very advanced and can take a long time to learn. Casual users may have trouble learning how to use the software because of how complicated it is. The graphic outputs are not as visually appealing as they could be and additional work or rendering is needed to really make them stand out, which requires additional software.

We are in front of the best GIS in the market ARCgis do anything you want to do in special analysis. With this software you can build maps, editaed, analyze raster data, make models, 3d models, terrain models, simulations, Geodesign, and so many other things. This software has incorporated the biggest data of datum and coordinates system of the world, you can virtually use ARCgis in any part of the world, and with great precision. Since the version 9.3 ESRI has incorporated the Imagery tool, that it is a layer that with internet connection allows you to have satellite images of any location of the world, it is very useful to analyze change in the enviroment and urbanization changes. ARCgis has everything, virtually everything that a people who work with maps needs, does not have comparison.
The main limitation of ARCgis it is the cost, it is a very expensive software that a little company or businees cannot afford. This a very useful tool but the cost does not allows to some people uses their potential for the spatial analysis. In some countries they offer educational licenses who help the students to know the software and work with some tools, this can be palliative for all that people who wants to work with the software but cannot afford.

ArcGIS provides a suite of programs that create incredible map visuals and can integrate huge amounts of data or simple tables for different projects I work on.
ArcGIS is packed with tools for 2D and 3D, Raster and Vector, and small scall and large scale. It's tool set provide an incredible array of options to a trained user.
This software is very expensive and it's obvious ESRI is trying to make this a legacy product when it should be their biggest investment. It was a big disappointment that ESRI chose to only put python3 into ArcGIS Pro and left the ArcGIS suite alone. Once python2.7 becomes officially unsupported this program will be much less useful even after costing so much.

I used ArcGIS mostly for water resources management purposes such as catchment delimitation, map generation etc.
It's really a very useful tool when it comes to making maps. As a water resource engineer i really like arc hydro tools.
It requires high speed computer capacity to run a complex models. But given the capabilities of the software i can't say it's a con.

The most useful tool for my work is the network analyst. I do research in transportation and the options of VRP or Facility Location have made things easier for me.
Spatial data management is very broad, you can manipulate, analyze, calculate or create information. It has numerous tools that you can use either in the database or directly in the shapefile.
ArcGIS is a very broad and complete program, although it seems like an advantage, sometimes it becomes difficult to handle all its powerful functionalities. Even when you have basic knowledge of GIS, you should always be consulting forums, tutorials, and documentation, which takes time. But in the end, it's worth it.

We wanted to use ArcGIS Enterprise because we recently purchased an asset management software and wanted to be able to use the work order system in the field and since we are already an enterprise client we wanted to leverage it to the fullest.
We really like being able to have our Enterprise Portal look and act like ArcGIS Online. Once we got the environment set up, working in it was almost the same as ArcGIS Online.
They have an out of the box setup for one machine. I almost wish we would have gone that route, but we wanted to future proof it and put the different modules on different servers. That made setup a little more difficult.

I've regularly used ArcGIS since it was ArcView 3.1, for about 20 years I guess.
ArcGIS leads the pack with functional tools like ArcMap, one of its most popular in spatial analysis. The tool-pack within ArcMAP allows users to convert layers to new formats, analyze data using a several geoprocessing tools, merge layers together and truly begin understanding landscape patterns. It has also been used to help forecast or predict after filtering layers or attributes within a layer to learn a unique set of characteristics that predict occurrence of a species or phenomenon, such as bank erosion. With the software, the user can subscribe to ESRI news to learn more about the broad applications of the product. And because it is so widely known, users can easily find tutorials and classes to learn the product. Recently I sought help from customer support and I will say, they are relentless at helping to diagnose the problem.
There are a lot of competitors for ArcGIS, though none seem to do everything that ArcGIS does. Rather than spending time waiting for the software to open, recognize our network license, and load the base maps, I can usually find an answer to my question using Google Earth or something similar. The high level of functionality comes at a cost. In addition to the memory hungry aspects of ESRI, the user interface can be a little intimidating. There are many tools and ways to layout the interface. Sometimes it can be confusing to know where the tools are and how to access them. While the interface is customizable in some ways, the geoprocessing tools cannot be added to the interface (or I haven't figured out how) and toolbars need to be loaded each time. For example, when I'm creating a shape file, I have to continuously ask the software to open the window for creating features. I'm sure this is great for some people who don't like machine learning or having their computer assume too much of their needs. But for me, I love that and would really like to see some of these customizable elements become more user friendly. Not only would that make things a bit more efficient on my end, but it might also make the experience less daunting or confusing.

Ability to utilize GIS in an enterprise environment.
You can perform complex analysis very simply and and create replicable analyses, create complex cartographic designs, and interact with cloud hosted data all within the same platform. In this regard, it is an extremely powerful tool.
ArcGIS 10.x has been out for nearly 8 years now, yet it is still extremely buggy and can be prone to crashing. ESRI is working towards releasing ArcGIS Pro, which is a completely rebuilt version of ArcGIS, but it is not currently as full-featured as ArcMap.

It’s a great educational tool for work with spatial data and a wonderful tool to handle and create geographical data. The simply useful tool who are under these related professionals.
I'm familiarised with this software since my university final year optional module. A highly powerful tool for handle geotechnical data and we can simply analysis with ArcGIS and can get highly useful outputs. It helps us to create multiple layer maps using ur surveying data and our geographical coordinates and the most useful feature is we can save our output file as our convenient format such as .shp.SVG & etc. It's a really helpful tool who are specially working with spatial data and still there are plenty of features available under this software actually most of them are not aware by my self.
The pricing for this software is really high and I'm pretty sure about most of us not ready to spend these much of amount for ArcGIS whether there are open source alternatives available in the market. It’s a big opportunity for me to use this vendor during my university life.

For a client, an application was developed that allowed the use of the map to point customers and with this information it could be analyzed and be able to make strategic decisions, through the maps you can know quantities of specific customers in a certain area, if they are clients. that have the same characteristics, typify them by themes, etc.
Arcgis is a very powerful mapping tool, through it we can create an entire infrastructure for the management of maps, pointing objects within them, manipulate and / or customize them, you can perform data analysis of the present information in the maps. If you want to go further and create an application that feeds or uses the map, it is possible to do this through the SDK, with which you can manipulate the information and process the data for its use, for example dotting clients, dotting oil wells, etc, any object that is useful for the end user, There is an online version, which presents several benefits for the creation of maps as well as sharing the same.
The version that is installed on the servers requires an infrastructure that is robust and large enough to support the processing of the same. It requires acquiring some technical skills to be able to administer the platform

Customer service is good although not always quick.
Functionality is the thing I look for most while using a GIS software and ESRI's ArcGIS has that hands down. No where else will you find such a user friendly software to edit maintain and analyze spatial data. I've been in the field for over 6 years and have exclusively used ESRI products. Yes, I've also always worked at places that can afford the hefty license fee - however in my opinion it's worth every penny for the analysis the software can perform.
Cost is quite expensive and many smaller government and non professionals cannot afford it. On the plus side they have a great student rate option!

ArcGIS (Global Information System) is a program I would highly recommend anyone to at least dabble with. It's 100% integrated with Google Maps and Google Earth. You can measure distance in real time, depth, the rise and fall of elevations. My experience with this program was nothing but exceptional! It greatly aided in my day-to-day tasks working for the Department of the Interior and the live customer service was a huge plus!
As the title suggests, this program is essential for anyone dealing with...well essentially anything related to land. As an employee of the Bureau of Land Management, this program was the backbone of plotting land boundaries, identifying leaps and bounds, mapping oil company property and even had the ability to provide three-dimensional down hole drilling perforations and depth intervals!
This program is not for the faint of heart. It does require a myriad of training modules to complete before you can start to see its full value. However, take heart as the modules are straight forward and step-by-step.

The ArcGIS Geostatistics tools can not be compared. They are not only functional, but educational.
I particularly work a lot with hurricanes, which are phenomena that move through different time zones, which implies that they must necessarily be introduced in a georeferencing program, in geographic coordinates.
The interpolation functions and tools it offers could be improved. Undoubtedly, the more real data you have, the better, but the mathematical functions and interpolation methods that are currently available can be expanded and improved, and equally, the ones that are currently available could be explained in much more detail so that the user can know in more detail, what to expect when using one method or another.

Unparalled mapping features. Without a doubt if someone needs to create a map, I'll suggest ESRI. The platform allows analysis of data, different data projections, and gives the user a lot of freedom if they can write scripts. I'm just a regular, simple user who has built maps and analyzed spatial data. The tools that can be used for analysis are among the best and as far as I know, unavailable elsewhere. ESRI has truly built an empire in spatial analysis,
Over the years, ArcGIS has become much more intuitive to use. The availability of spatial data, free or not, has become huge, The biggest problems I have now are the size of the program -- it takes forever to load...well, maybe 5 minutes (it's networked). The other problem I have is in understanding how to do things. There is a Help file, but I've found Google search engines far more helpful. The good news? ESRI has been around so long and lots of people know it so well, answers to common questions can be easily found.

ArcGIS is really the only product that competes well in the outdoor map market for large amounts of data. There are some improvements we would like to see, but for a company that large, this might be unreasonable. You kind of get what you get, since they are the only show in town.
ESRI is the big dog when it comes to digital maps. We use these a lot to map our facilities and specifically our underground utilities. This is the best product on the market. The only competitor might be AutoDesk, but even that doesn't compete. It is a very functional product and can contain all the information we need.
Sometimes when you load some of the basemap images that software can really slow down. Also the zoom function for the online database interaction can be a little glitchy at times. A lot of these can be fixed by changing some of the detail settings, but that can take some digging to find. The company is so big, that if you have a question; you are not likely to get ahold of anyone. You are better off to look up videos on youtube or try posting questions on forums.

ArcGIS has help us to make the planning of routes of our trucks, reducing the costs and getting a better return of invesment in our sells, we do all this combining a great amount of spatyal data with terrain models and transportation times, and of course using a big set of tool of Arc Tool Box.

The ability to create maps, perform spatial analysis and create and manage spatial data. The software has many functions that provide many uses for multiple purposes and provide me the tools needed to perform my job functions.
There are some bugs and in some cases when doing advanced analysis, certain features are broken. Also, when new updates are released, some functionality is removed and or replaced with different functionality.

1) The graphical interface of ArcGis is easy to use. 2) I like labelling tool called "The Maplex Label Engine", provides best options for labelling. 3) It has the ability to make very nice looking map products, has unmatched cartographic output. 4) ArcGIS can work with CAD data, KML files for Google Earth and other data sources, great!
1) The costs of this software are enormous for the initial purchase price and the subsequent yearly fees for the product. 2) It can be very slow. It takes a few minutes to open and uses a lot of RAM. 3) Limited options for incorporating graphics into maps

What I like most about ESRI ArcGIS is the option to use the online platform or Desktop version. Points, tracks, and layers are easily uploaded and viewed. I also found the customer support to be excellent. I had a few issues with billing, but when I contacted my service representative, she explained everything very clearly and sent me extra resources to make sure I knew exactly how to avoid problems in the future.
My one issue was that the credits system was not entirely clear to me right away. I ended up adding a new feature layer and going through 1000 credits in about a month (which would normally take a year). This meant I had to add more credits (and spend ~$200), but once the service representative explained how credits work (she was extremely helpful), I haven't made the mistake again since.

ArcGIS is the best software to use for mapping. It's easy to learn for general mapping and also works great as an educational tool.
It is very easy to learn how to use ArcGIS with a little practice. There are a lot of options in making your map and many basemaps to choose from. ArcGIS online also provides a large database of mapable data in case you need it. Lots of analysis tools and the online community is great.
It can't handle a lot of data very well and often freezes when there is too much on the map. This slows down processing. Also has some bugs sometimes when things won't work and will work at others.

Its ability to correlate spatial and numerical data, has a good graphic interface. It allows to show results in 3D, generate predictive models, manage multiple variables. It is simple to expose beginner students.
It presents limitations of license, it is expensive for people who start their studies or who would like to use it on a personal level. The projects do not maintain their characteristics if they are opened with a different version to the saved version, generating loss of information.

I recommend ArcGIS for field biologists. This is a powerful software for collecting data in the field even without service. Create customized data forms with upload to Collector and sync with your phone. Drop the clipboard and endless hours of data entry. When you are done collecting in the field sync back, edit, and export your data to excel if desired.
ArcGIS is a very powerful software with a preset of tools. It does take some training and playing around to learn the setup and how the tools work. I love that the capabilities is endless. Remember simpler the better. If you can't do something with one of their tools you can often find commands online or write your own script.
There is a lack of function when you have media attachments to a set of data/table. For example, if you have a set of points with photo attachments there was no way to export the photos for File Manager with custom name or association to the points. It should at least be titles by the Object ID # instead it was a random name given by the initial phone. You also cannot export multiples photos. But the good New is I was able to write a script to make it all work for me.

ArcGIS feels swift, smooth and reliable when generating maps of all kinds.
ArcGIS is a spatial analysis, Imagery and Remote sensing, Mapping and Visualization, 3D GIS and Data collection and management tool which can be used to generate, overlay maps with higher accuracy. I have used ArcGIS software for my Civil Engineering undergraduate period whenever mapping was required. Flood mapping and generating inundation maps can be done using ArcGIS more accurately and easily than other software. Also remote sensing, real-time visualization are other key functions that can be done using ArcGIS. Also, it has the capability to link, import or export with other widely used software like Autocad, MIKE software, etc.
Usually, ArcGIS online search from PRO is limiting the amount of information online.

ArcGIS is a system with which people can work with on-line maps and related geographic information. With ArcGIS you can create many different types of maps. The most interesting of all are the interactive intelligent maps that show, integrate and synthesize complete layers of geographic and descriptive information of diverse origins. These ArcGIS maps provide an interactive window through which you can view, explore and analyze this information.
What I like most about this software is the ease with which you can create maps or design final maps better known as layout. Unlike other similar software, Arcgis simplifies the process, in addition to providing aestheticity and harmony in the scale of colors and labeling of toponyms. In addition, the work with ArcGIS encourages the use of geographic databases (geodatabases) in the management of our data. With the way to create projects in arcgis, not only allows us to store the styles and properties applied to the layer in the project, but creates a geodatabase associated with it in which we can physically include the layers that we use as Feature Class. Although we can also add a previous geodatabase to the project, as it used to be done a long time ago.
Arcgis licenses are expensive. It was not always possible to count on the availability of ESRI products for acrgis. In addition, it is not very versatile in the consumption of data, that is, a different protocol must be applied to open each file according to its type. Likewise, with the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) services connection, it is necessary to download and install the Data Interoperability extension, unlike other softwares that this process refers to one clicks.

I am able to export database information from my other oil and gas lease tracking software, manipulate that data, and create informative maps so that the decision-makers have an easier job. It really does make life easier for everyone.
Easy and fairly quick to make a map. It's also great at fine-tuning details in your maps. I've never found it necessary to use a third-party software to make a map that looks professional. Of course, GIS is not only about making maps. It's also about manipulating the data behind the maps. ArcGIS is very good, and gives you most of the tools that you need to get the job done.
The software is expensive, maybe prohibitively expensive for a small company. When the company decides to overhaul the software, it almost seems to ignore current users by completely redoing everything, including current workflows. ESRI is currently trying to get users to migrate to ArcGIS Pro, which is very different from the current full-featured software, ArcMap.

I have very specific features that I need to show in a map. With ArcGis I am able to customize my maps as much as I like.
Easily imports my .csv data or gis shapefiles. Offers a variety of basemaps including Open Street Map and Natl. Geographic. You don't have to depend on Google maps. Converts to a file that can be read and worked on in Adobe Illustrator. Necessary for tweaking maps.
Steep learning curve. Confusing credit system. Essentially, you start out with 500 credits in my case. Every time you make an inquiry of their database, you get dinged. I used one of the ArcGis tutorials and saw my credit usage go through the roof. Called cust. service and they explained that was the issue.

ARC GIS is the industry standard for mapping geographical information. It provides powerful integration of data with geographical locators. The visual display of data and the the integration of layers of data across a landscape or geographical area can provide insights into relationships between and among data sets.
ARC GIS relies on data collected from various sources and researchers, often without complete treatment of the metadata, specifically it is problematic that data sources may or may not fully document the strengths, weaknesses and appropriate application of the data. This can lead to misapplication by ARC GIS users and lead to misleading impressions of interrelationships among and between data sets. ARC GIS is a strong tool with great potential. It's greatest weakness is the variable quality of data integrated via this program.

It's a very powerful tool with so many features in it one can even imagine. It has it's applications in almost any field and worth every penny invested for.
It is the best way to manage and and analyse the data with so many functions and features available for any location. With latest updates, it has now most advanced statistical tools. It can handle a large amount of Vector data very efficiently. Can be used as Web Maps.
It is costly as compared to other similar products but very powerful one. Takes more space. Needs a lot of training as the software is too complex.

I use ArcGIS mostly to solve environmental problems, but I have used it to make great maps and in other industries as well.
I love the fact that ArcGIS is getting very common throughout multiple industries. You can do so much with this software, and are only limited by your data and your imagination.
Customer service is terrible. They will not help you figure out how to do something (better to just google it and play around until you figure it out). Also, downloading and licensing this software is the biggest pain! It usually takes me half a day just to figure out how to get it on a computer, then usually end up calling customer service because a single computer has multiple licenses (total waste of money) and therefore we have run out of licenses....

Used all throughout academics and now using in professional settings. Unavoidable in certain industries and the sole provider of enterprise GIS applications.
The features that are available in ArcGIS Pro and ArcMap with extensions and/or third-party additions
The cost. Mainly the yearly subscription model and the high cost of extensions such as spatial analyst toolkit is too high for small businesses.

Our field crews and engineering staff couldn't function without it. Out utilities assets with all of their attributes are on our digital maps. On it we document structures attributes, condition over time, maintenance schedules, and even hyperlink photo and video inspections to each asset. Invaluable information no further away than a click of a button, no matter where in our world that you are!
Extremely powerful software with a tool for just about anything you could think of to do with geographic data. "Smart Maps". Objects given geographic location and attributes of any kind that you want running in the background.
ELA agreement is extremely reasonable but for a private individual it could be cost prohibitive. I believe they are working on a different license model for home users but would have to check on it.

We have had a great experience with ArcGIS and all other ERSI software.
ArcGIS is the best program we have found of its type. We use it for underground utility mapping. Combined with the mobile app, there's nothing better out there!
A few times our online maps have went offline for some reason or another, however support was always able to get them fixed for us.

As a Civil Engineer, ArcGIS has always been part of my breif career stint. I always use the tool in my preliminary investigation and in the collection pf spatial information necessary for design of various Engineering structures.
ArcGIS is a very user friendly software when it comes to Geospatial analysis and mapping. I highly recommend this GIS tool to educational institutions and learners because it offers a very smooth learning expirience largely due to its easy to the eye user interface and self explanatory features. Free trials and tutorials are also easily available which is a key component of the learning process. Be sure to engage an expert in GIS who are easily available due to the popularity of ArcGIS.
ArcGIS is very slow in booting and processing depending on the capabilities of the computer one is using. It is also extremely easy for someone to lose unsaved data due to the fact that ARcGIS does not automatically save work done on a project.

At the end of the day, it serves the needs we need to produce our work product for clients.
This has up to date maps and data that we need to service our clients needs. We are able to download and create visually appealing graphics.
My main complaint is the user interface as an administrator with purchasing and transferring licenses. It's not intuitive, we have to manage internally whereas other software we are able to login to an online portal and easily administrate licenses. It's also quite costly for us as a small business, and the file sizes are huge.

We created a lot of Spatial files in different formats for analysing the count data (Demographic data) for economic analysis, Housing, Unemployment benefits and many more. The spatial files were used to create State Map with different counties and congressional districts for analysis that are used in Tableau and Power BI be
The biggest asset of this software is that we can create the custom territory maps with different layers of the data for perfect analysis. We can create multiple layers of the maps using different geographical coordinates and has the ability to save the images in different formations (.shp files, Topjson, SVG..). It integrates well with Power BI and Tableau tools.
The license of the software is very expensive. The interface of the software is very difficult for users who are using for the first time. It is a Computer RAM intensive software (You need to have more powerful machines)

Database management has greatly helped my company because it allows me to store data and apply it to different projects. The ease of developing maps has allowed us to create and submit high quality maps that surpasses most in the forestry industry.
ArcGIS allows me to build and maintain databases that assist my company in the private forestry industry. As a GIS Specialist I am able to transform that data into easily readable and understood maps for forest management plans, timber harvest plans, reforestation plans, etc. I am also able to assist my field going coworkers by creating georeferenced PDF maps that they can use in other applications to collect field data which I then can post process and import into ArcGIS software.
The thing that I like least about this software is that it has a habit of crashing unexpectedly. This has been something that has been going on for years.

ArcGIS by Esri has a great reputation and experience in the GIS software market, for which it has great competitiveness to position itself as the main option for computerized geographic analysis. Impeccable reporting, advanced statistical tools and effective handling of large amounts of vector or raster data make it simply the best.
Personally, I believe that the cost and high hardware requirements of ArcGIS limit individual entrepreneurs willing to give their start in a second level analysis. However, it is important to highlight that for these cases there are several free access softwares with powerful analysis tools that, despite not having the complete and integrated analysis of ArcGIS, can satisfy certain advanced needs. On the other hand, investing in this software represents a strength to be on the tip of the iceberg, since the response time and the depth of the analysis can be much more favorable for the client.

Spatial analysis, presentation of results in jpeg format or published to online services to be used within an app. Complete package that is all tied together. No other GIS software package contains so much functionality.
Quality looking outputs without the need for additional software. Good integration with online services.
Very memory intensive, sometimes hangs with blue spinning 'working' cursor icon for indeterminate amount of time.

Map production and geospatial data caputure and analytics all in one place. Scripting makes common tasks fast and repeatable.
Effective and effiecient software for when you just need the software to work. Many tools right out of the box.
User interface has never been the best; really disappointed that ArcPro went to the ribbon interface. This takes much of the user based preference away from the user.

It’s been great. I once compared the functionality of ArcGIS to QGIS in a certain talks I had - ArcGIS produced a more comprehensive outcome. I always choose ArcGIS in my research.
ArcGIS is one of the most frequently used softwares for GIS. Given this, it means that most people trained in GIS are able to use the software but communicate about its functions too. Arc has created a network of GIS users which in some regard, has formed its own language. I like this because when speaking to other users, they understand me and my actions on the software. I like the endless capabilities that Arc offers. Using the software is highly beneificial to people like myself who are involved in natural science research. It’s a tool that never fails to produce some sort of value - even if it is only a map. I appreciate the product development and like that it can utilize multiple spatial datasets in a user friendly framework.
Learning how to use ArcGIS definitely takes its time. It’s endless capabilities make it somewhat complex and so the user has to know exactly what they are looking to do in Arc in order to achieve it. I know too many people who have no idea where to start with Arc it are apprehensive to use it because of its technicality. I guess this is not a bad thing should one be trained in the software, but it’s defintwly not user friendly to the layman. Other esri products are more suited and easier for laymen - such esri online products. In my experience, I have had ArcMap freeze or shut down numerous times. These bugs seem to still get through and it is the worst feeling when one loses their progress on a project. I also find the tools somewhat tedious at times and it can be frustrating to have to search the help or esri online panels for solutions. However, in most cases, these problems get solved because their is readily available information on each tool.

I used ArcGIS to collect, manage and analyze data about curb ramps in my state.
It's great software to create maps and manage data. I use ArcGIS software to collect curb ramps data all over state using an app called Survey123 for ArcGIS, this app helps to collect live data of many points from many locations. When it come managing the data in ArcGIS, there's many features such Edit and Analysis that helps me to QC data. I like that have the ability to run query on live data by either using "Select By Attributes" or "Phyhon", I can also use "ModelBuilder" to create my own report. It also, has feature where I can customize my maps. There's many features in ArcGIS that i'm still learning and discovering, and I feel the more I learn, the more I'm getting the best tools from ArcGIS that will help me manage my data more sufficient.
Sometimes can run slow from time to time, and it can crush if the volume of the data is too big and also if the computer process/memory can't handle it.

There is no limit to the analysis you do. There is always more to learn. Literally anything can be analysed, lots of toolbars with really great extensions. ArcScene is amazing since i'm into urban designs and 3D modelling. I love transportation , so the network analyst extension is my go to.
The huge price tag. Whenever it crashes on me. There should be a better way to arrange toolbars, rather than clustering them at the top

An indispensable tool to work every day in my business, helping to manage all my spatial information quickly and easily for all my employees..
It provides an extensive possibility of resources for the spatial analysis of data. With this tool you can create, consult and analyze in a very easy way your data in the territory, combining layers easy and fast and obtain new information from that data. Amazing compatibility with most used formats and the best for analyse interpolation of data values in the space
Maybe the license, ArcGIS forces you to connect to a license to perform certain geoprocessing operations. Therefore, although it has a good geoprocessing framework, solid and broad, its license level determines which tools can be used in this tool

Is the most complete geographic information system, since it allows you to work from the process of vectorization, creation of databases and the realization of high-quality map products
Is the program of daily use to perform the spatialization of the different variables with which I work daily, allows me to vectorize, generate base and thematic maps, associate databases with different vector elements either points, polygons or lines. Generate soil profiles, determination of topography. Account as a wide range of tools that facilitate the work of location, location and geographical elements. The outputs can be digital or paper.
It requires constant updating of the program because otherwise some tools start to generate conflict. It is a program with high costs. New users must go through training processes since understanding the program is not so simple, if you have never had interaction with them.

Built using standards such as COM, XML, and SQL, ArcGIS can be easily integrated with the structure of the information system and data of any organization or individual. Given that GIS extends to new applications and new user communities, ArcGIS also solves the challenges of offering and receiving data and related GIS services to users around the world. The versatility and easy to use allows ArcGIS to be used in a variety of areas: from land cadastre, geodesy, cartography, geography, and telecommunications, to geology, ecology, management of water resources and subsoil, oil and gas industry, and even remote sensing. Its technology of Geodatabase allows you to effectively store heterogeneous data and easily use them in complex projects and systems. In the geodatabase, users can define rules and relationships within the repository that define the behavior of spatially interconnected geographic (or geological) objects and object classes and ensure data integrity. With the help of ArcGIS it is possible to prepare qualitative cartographic products with all necessary elements of marginal design. Also, you can quickly create a realistic virtual 3D scene based on spatial data, using digital terrain models. With a lot of possibilities for processing of both raster and vector data, and its strong functions for map algebra, editing, and spatial analysis, together with the latest data models and control make the ArcGIS family of software products ones of the leaders among GIS software.
I have been using ArcGIS for almost 10 years and I can testify that this software is difficult to study, a very complex program for a simple user, the program is only for those who take the professional level, so, to exploit the full potential of ArcGIS (for example processing of multispectral and hyperspectral images, geostatistical studies and so on) you need to dedicate time, endless hours of study. Other con that I see, is the high price taking into account the purchase of any additional modules, it is a very expensive program, but, once and again, the potential is almost limitless once you get to dominate all its functionalities.

All the tools and platforms that has, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS online and Armap, these allow me to get all my jobs done in plenty of ways and without any trouble.
The only bad thing is the high price of the software that for people like me hat lives in countries with restrictions to dollar access is pretty difficult and pricy.

Analyze spatyal data, satellite images, manage tables with spatyal information, edit shapefiles, make hydrology models and so on.
This GIS offers everthing that a professional that works with spatyal data needs, enormous amount of tool, a very complete interphase, the possibility to manage big amounts of spatyal data, a quality of image and video very high, and a ArcTool Box with everything you need to analyze spatyal information, The three moduls are awesome: ArcMap, ArcCatalog and ArcScene are the best in the market and everyone meets it porpuse. This is the best software in the world.
The cost is and had always been the highest limitation of ArcGIS is too expensive for individuals and small companies, so only the goverments or big companies can afford to pay for the license of this awesome software.

With ArcGIS I have worked in multiple academic and work exercises, calculating risk indices for loads in the hydrographic basins, housing in inadequate areas, public services coverage in small population centers.
ArcGis has developed multiple tools, adapted to the requirements of the users, ranging from the capture of data by means of GPS, remote sensors to a simple load by address of the property, the ESRI developments go from the PC to the data management online through ArcGIS online.
ArcGIS only works on the Windows system, it is a proprietary software in which you must cancel the license according to the requirements that the project requires, the company or institution where you work, it can be expensive or very expensive if you choose to have all the software extensions . It has a free trial version for 30 days. You need a high performance team for the management of powerful databases, the manipulation of 3D data or satellite images processed in this environment. Its strength is the handling of vector data, the modules for the plot data do not present a wide development

Analyze enviromental data in multiple scales and mak studies with precision and detail.
ArcGIS has a lot of tools to do enviromental analysis that increase the precision and details of this can of studies, you can analyze satellite images, manage spatyal data in shapefiles about vegetation, fire, crops, desertefication processes and so on. You can also use hydrology analysis to know the level of degration of a watershed, and manage 3D models for a better exposition of your investigation.
The price is the greatest limitation of ArcGIS, because the license is so expensive and every modul is sell separately, that is a big limitation for people who wants to use another moduls and only can use the basic one because of the price.

It makes the start of very pretty maps, sometimes. I almost always generate base layers here, and then export them into illustrator/photoshop to do actual final renders.
The styling guides are better than any other options out there - once you can learn to navigate the byzantine menus. I've used QGIS, Globalmapper, AutoCad, and Microstation, and maps just look better in ArcMap than in any others -it's made for creating display mapping. I know that there are other programmatic things you can do, but for my workflow, I use it almost exclusively for building maps for display.
The menus are silly that you have to go that far down a rabbit hole, processing is a nightmare (especially with messy geometry), and I used to (until I quit trying altogether) find myself trying a processing task in ArcMap, watching it fail, and then trying it again in GlobalMapper/QGIS and it would do fine. Processing is a very weak point in ArcMap, at least from my perspective.

The software is a little pricy, but I can accept this with the functionality that is provided to the user.

ArcGIS brings us the opportunity to make maps where we localized the theaters of the city and know the capacity and measure the access through streets, with all this data we can make a tour for people of the city to know every theater and enjoy of the cultural offer of the city.
ArcGIS has the major quantity of tool to analyze spatyal data, the software incorporate more than about a hundred tools to analyze data, this can be shapefiles, raster files, radar files, CAD files, and so many others formats that you need or use to do spatyal analysis, another incredible features are the extension like Geowizard where you can modellings through statistical methods the spatyal data and see how it their behavior in an specific place. ArcGIS content tool for all professional who works with spatyal information.
The price, ArcGIS is a very expensive software not the most of little companies or entrepreneurs have the capacity to pay for it and apply for their work. It is shame because this software has everything you need to analyze and work with spatyal data no matter your profession.

Many different levels of licences depending on what kind of work you need to do, ease of customization, there are many kids of maps and charts you can do.

The software allows for quick and easy input of different mapping objectives, such as an as-built survey of existing drainage or sewer infrastructure. This allows provides a clear map whether to use in the field to review existing conditions or in the office to create conceptual plans for proposed work. The software also allows our organization to create quick maps for project scoping, grant applications, and public meetings to aid in illustrating existing conditions and proposed improvements.
Some features are not always intuitive and full use of the software requires class study, reading, and years of experience. While I don't necessarily think this is a bad thing it limits how easily someone new to the software will be able to access and process available information.

Learned about Spatial Analysis and how it affects the city building and planning process.
There is so much functionality built into different geoprocessing tools that you can customize your spatial analysis to complete basically any task and solve any spatial challenge. I like that you there is the opportunity to use scripts and tools that other users have built in the software and overcome challenges that may not be solved using the standard geoprocessing tools.
Due to the enormous amount of analysis capabilities, there is a steep learning curve that one must overcome to use the software to its fullest capability. If you're looking for something to do basic spatial analysis, this is likely not the tool you should use as it's expensive and has more functionality than the average person needs.
I like the power this software provides for data and spatial analysis. The latest versions include the most popular data analysis python libraries.
The cost of this software is prohibitive for many organisations. There are free open source alternatives (e.g. QGIS) which offer many of the same features which may be more attractive to small organisations.
It's really a very useful tool when it comes to making maps. As a water resource engineer i really like arc hydro tools.
It requires high speed computer capacity to run a complex models. But given the capabilities of the software i can't say it's a con.
Most intuitive GIS Clutter-free menus
Should have been free for students
Over the years, ArcGIS has become much more intuitive to use. The availability of spatial data, free or not, has become huge, The biggest problems I have now are the size of the program -- it takes forever to load...well, maybe 5 minutes (it's networked). The other problem I have is in understanding how to do things. There is a Help file, but I've found Google search engines far more helpful. The good news? ESRI has been around so long and lots of people know it so well, answers to common questions can be easily found.
ArcGIS is the best tool for all the people who works with cartography and spatyal data, all the features that you need are in ArcGIS, if you looking for edition of shapefiles, visualizing raster data, modelling in 3D, or you just want to apply some statistical method to spatyal data, ArcGIS is the software that you need. The numbers of tool of the software are endless and each adjust to the user needs.
The price is and always had been the great limitation of this software, this a software that a small company does not allows, and this can be bad for people who wants to improve their business with this great tool but does not have the money to pay for the license.
1) The costs of this software are enormous for the initial purchase price and the subsequent yearly fees for the product. 2) It can be very slow. It takes a few minutes to open and uses a lot of RAM. 3) Limited options for incorporating graphics into maps
The features that are available in ArcGIS Pro and ArcMap with extensions and/or third-party additions
The cost. Mainly the yearly subscription model and the high cost of extensions such as spatial analyst toolkit is too high for small businesses.
ArcGIS is the best program we have found of its type. We use it for underground utility mapping. Combined with the mobile app, there's nothing better out there!
A few times our online maps have went offline for some reason or another, however support was always able to get them fixed for us.
ESRI, Thank you
Major Con:
This has up to date maps and data that we need to service our clients needs. We are able to download and create visually appealing graphics.
My main complaint is the user interface as an administrator with purchasing and transferring licenses. It's not intuitive, we have to manage internally whereas other software we are able to login to an online portal and easily administrate licenses. It's also quite costly for us as a small business, and the file sizes are huge.
Complete set of tools for most of uses cases with the standard license.
Some extension like the Network Analysis can be expensive.
Quality looking outputs without the need for additional software. Good integration with online services.
Very memory intensive, sometimes hangs with blue spinning 'working' cursor icon for indeterminate amount of time.
Effective and effiecient software for when you just need the software to work. Many tools right out of the box.
User interface has never been the best; really disappointed that ArcPro went to the ribbon interface. This takes much of the user based preference away from the user.
I like it because it helps me to develop the planning activities of the approach of the territory I require for the fulfillment of my work functions.
I do not like it to be a software with high costs. On the other hand, it requires a computer with a very high installed capacity to execute the tools in an easy way.
This program generates a headache because the processing cost is very high. The cost of licenses can also be mentioned here, it does not have a basic version for basic works without you having to pay a license
- The ability to map our data and to make intelligent decisions around service provision
- It can be quite difficult to use
the flights on digital models of the terrain are incredible, it has an impressive number of modules that allows you to carry out any study of spatial data
It is not easy to use, the menu and the tools are not intuitive. sometimes simple tasks must be performed using many steps in arcgis. it is necessary for the company to work on simplifying steps in data processing
That allows to make maps at different scales and facilitates the interpretation of georeferenced information with precision for a better spatial analysis
the layer combination sometimes disappears georefenciados data what produces lack of information in the maps and consequently it is necessary to relizar edition of the data to reconfigure the map
As a geographer, the software allows me to do my work associated with cartographic representation, population centers, attributes, population indexes, heat maps, land use, level of services, wealth generation and projection of these indices for a future population
Over the years, the software has become a lot more stable and less buggy. The functionality of the software covers virtually every aspect of our society and the applications are virtually endless.
The software is a little pricy, but I can accept this with the functionality that is provided to the user.
Propietary character can make it hard to tell why your analysis did not work, memory hold on files last for a few minutes after program is closed. Can hog up a lot of your RAM
Some features are not always intuitive and full use of the software requires class study, reading, and years of experience. While I don't necessarily think this is a bad thing it limits how easily someone new to the software will be able to access and process available information.
