Vimeo empowers video creators and businesses of all kinds to tell exceptional stories and connect with their audiences, customers, and employees. Home to more than 90 million members in over 150 countries, Vimeo provides powerful tools for creators to host, share and sell videos, as well as video solutions to businesses for their internal communications and marketing needs.
This video platform is valuable, it does good things. At first, I was a little put off and I asked myself why can't I just host these video on Youtube for free? Why should I pay for this service every month. Vimeo does some pretty great things, first and foremost, Vimeo is discreet, it doesn't add commercials before OR after your videos. You videos get full attention and you control what the end user sees. This is perfect for hosting videos on a corporate website or small Wordpress site. You can even customize how the player looks and where the videos are allowed to play. Other paid sites cost much more for the same features.
The internal user interface can be clunky at times, you can sometimes get lost in there. But in general, it works well and allows you to save presets on some things that make consistency easier. i.e every video has the same qualities.
Vimeo is the place to go for hosting your professional videos. Why? I love the ability to I have to completely customize how my videos are used on the web. From private to public, to embedding and having unlimited ability to live stream, to multiple users and plenty of storage to upload every week, Vimeo Premium is great! We use this service every week as an essential to our church's media presence online. They are so much more than just hosting to us. They help our workflow and sharing ability across all platforms.
Vimeo Premium costs $75/month. There are two cheaper packages that may suit your needs. However, you do have to be able to justify the cost.
What I like most about Vimeo Pro is that it allows my company to host all of our content professionally and it uploads and plays in full HD and 4k. It's easy, fast to upload, and really takes our videos to another level quality wise compared to YouTube.
What I like least about Vimeo Pro is the price, but it's worth it because of all the features you get.
We have clients from all over the world and we found out later on that some clients couldn't view the video's hosted on Vimeo. We found out that Vimeo is banned in some countries, while that's not really their fault per se, but it is a pain in the butt as we didn't really have alternative options for video hosting for those countries.
It is still not a place for "non-video people". Imagine a family wedding - people still expect you to upload to Youtube. Also, there should be a student plan (not sure if it already exists by now).
With our worlds increasingly sensitive disposition to free speech; finding a place to upload videos that aren't toy reviews or make-up tutorials is getting harder and harder to do. Queue Vimeo- alternative to the restrictive YouTube. Oh, and its Ad-free too? Well shucks. I have to watch 4 ads at least on a 10 minute video on YouTube. Not to mention that some of those ads are 30 minutes long. So if you aren't right there to hit that skip button, you better get there because that ad for Purple Mattress is going to go on...and on...and on.
It may not have all the bells and whistles we've taken for granted with YouTube and have come to expect, but it takes time. Especially when working against a monopoly who is aligned with tech companies that like to censor and shut down competitors.
There isn't much of a downside to Vimeo or Vimeo plus. For a pretty reasonable price, Vimeo plus offers password-protection and a slick, professional-looking video player that we use for our educational tools and products.
Other than the fact that it costs money, there really isn't much of a downside. I suppose it would be nice to pay extra to remove the Vimeo branding but that's not a must in most cases.
For what it offers, Vimeo pro is really affordable. The ability to customize the player and embed settings are what i like the most.
I really like Vimeo, so i can't think of any con.
I love the Quality that Vimeo offers. It is such a cleaner look than YouTube. We use Vimeo to embed all of our videos into our website. I love the features where you can choose exactly what your embed looks like. Vimeo is incredibly powerful and we love the fact that people can also download the video directly from Vimeo.
I wish that the organization of files was a little more drag and drop. Sometimes I have uploaded videos out of order and wanted to reorganize them and haven't been able to, so Ive had to delete them and re-upload them in the order I wanted them.
Lots of high quality features and functionality.
Not as popular as Youtube so you might not get as much traffic. I've had issues with embedding videos on some sites. I teach at a university and use academic platforms and sometimes they are not as compatible as Youtube or Daily Motion.
Vimeo doesn't do a great job of discovery compared to YouTube so we don't usually use the platform to publish public videos.
Vimeo's native video quality for its uploads are very high, which is great for content creators. With Pro subscription you get, secure sharing, advanced stats, video showcase, multi platform publishing, and more. There are multiple tier where you get even more features like livestreaming and VIP support.
You get what you pay for. The Vimeo priced model has jumped significantly over the last few years. Though it has dramatically increased its efforts to bring creative teams together, and smush content creators and their audiences into interactive digital play spaces, for someone new to the game the price may be a little high in comparison to other platforms (HI YOUTUBE!).
It is the best place for artists and all the creative minds to post their videos. Since this area is curated with professional work, you can always trust to come back to this website for inspiration.
I don't think one would complain about the features provided with the pro account. But for the free account, you need to wait in queue for your video to be uploaded. Which still is pretty quick.
It is not necessarily a negative thing, but it is the reason why we do not continue using the service. For large companies it may not be a problem or a representative expense to pay monthly for this service. For smaller companies (like ours) a free (or cheaper) option that basically offers the same options may be more appropriate. Of course, it will not have as much style and cache as Vimeo, but it will work ...
Vimeo exceeded all expectations. When uploading videos, Vimeo would fork the file into multiple deliverables to have options to provide each user with the optimum file for their device/bandwidth. The security features were excellent. You can define passwords for videos or set specific sites that videos can be played on, but blocked from all others. There were other Intro and Outtro features that can be set with the tool (we didn't use this, but were aware of the capability). The analytics dashboard provided key details on video consumption. This allowed us to gather key information on what videos were successful and what made videos successful.
The one thing I would love to see offered by Vimeo is the ability to create a playlist of videos into a coordinated sequence or set of videos around a topic.
Vimeo Pro is a professional social media website, perfect to display your current artwork from films, to demo reels and progress updates. Its a great tool because of its professional archive of short films and artist. I would recommend this site to any artist looking for reference.
I find that the program works fine, It's reliable I have used it to work with professional and small clients.
I really enjoy that there's just so much content on it. You can find just about anything you'd like to see. Also things are grouped into categories so it makes you feel like people who'd enjoy your work might actually see it if they just look, which is invigorating for an artist.
The free software doesn't allow for a lot of space to be used. I get that they're trying to get people to turn over to the paid version, but if you're thinking of uploading a lengthy short or a feature you'll definitely need to pay.
Well honestly I had this program/App for a while it’s amax for what I utilize it for but it offers more features that make this app AMAZINGLY Useful. Being able to upload content as well as Host content makes the app universal in its self. As well as like and watch different videos from all over the world! You can also create and edit which is also cool! Has great plans to choose from offers up to 8K video and unlimited bandwidth how could you lose! Those are just a few of the pros! Check out Vimeo on your App Store for a great service and a great price that isn’t to heavy! Definitely recommend this App!
I honestly have no cons for this App! This is app is a necessity in my line with of work and it does its job extremely well for the money spent!
The paid offerings can sometimes be a difficult sell for very small companies/individuals as there are few services that Vimeo offers that can't be replicated by completely free alternatives (mostly via YouTube) - but the high quality and ad-free experience is often worth it.
Vimeo is decent platform for us to play high quality video without and any commercial ads in all the time. Also it offer large video library with the high quality. Vimeo videos can simply embed into social media is an another advantage. It's very user-friendly and good value for the money as well. We can talk lot about Vimeo as it has plenty of features and functions.
The major drawback is the processing time, as we are paying for it we would except to do the job in less time consuming and also the time is the major constraint for me. Hence in that aspect Vimeo is failed to fit into the market.
The feature that led our organization to selecting Vimeo above all else was the ability to restrict viewing of our videos by the domain or page they're listed on. For our primary use case of videos, it was important to protect our IP without risking someone simply sharing a link to the video.
Compared to YoutTube it seems that processing times of videos takes a bit longer. This doesn't cause any workflow issues for us and we've planned appropriately for posting our videos.
A part of our marketing services is video marketing. And we use a number of software to create unique and best videos for our client. And vimeo is our storage and platform which we use to share our videos. Having 200+ clients and several products means we have to create a number of videos per week. Vimeo pro allows you to upload 15+ GB per week, which is a must for us. The privacy is updated, we love that. You can make the changes on the same video and have the link not changed. That is very convenient for us when improvising ads.
I did have issues when looking up for old videos from profile, sometimes even if I search with the Video id, the video doesn't show up. I have to go deep into the video list to find the video.
1) There is no customization on ALL player controls or colors in embeds, just most. If you want an auto-play video with no progress bar or overlays, look elsewhere.
Vimeo is one of its kind in Video Publishing. With vimeo Pro, you can take advantage of as much as 20GB per week to store all your videos files and share access on the internet with ads free.
I should have said, for fun purposes, I would have loved to monetize my videos, but no YouTube is there. Aside from that, it's cool with video tools inclusive.
The only downside that I find is that the processing takes a bit long, but with that being the only drawback I think this does exactly what I need it to do and upload my videos. I do wish we had a bigger weekly upload amount.
We use Vimeo Pro mostly to share work in progress and proofs. The quick upload and large amount of storage makes it an ideal solution for this.
The features available with Vimeo Pro are pretty basic. Changing video settings on mobile is a bit of a headache.
Vimeo Pro allows me to manage our videos from my iPhone, which is extremely helpful when trying to publish weekly service videos. I always upload from a MacMini, but duties take me away from it. The app allows me to publish the video in two different formats after it is uploaded and processed. Helps me be in "two places at once!!"
I wish the statistical analysis on the app was a little more clear. I like the statistics I can access through a web browser, and wish I could get that same breakdown in the app.
I have used Vimeo Pro for about three years doing freelance work for clients — including short promotional videos and long-term projects. The ease of this software and it’s user friendly capabilities make this product a win-win for me in my daily use. I love how fast it processes videos and the again —- the ease of use!
The only thing that I don’t like is how I have to keep saving my projects — but it backs them up. That’s the only thing.
Vimeo allows our organization to easily and quickly upload the hours of dance footage we take each week. Part of our organization is a repertory dance company, so this is very important.
The videos we post on Vimeo that we want public don’t seem to be as searchable as other company’s videos on YouTube. Could be a feature difference, could be a Google/YouTube thing, not sure just something I’ve noticed!
No ads play before the video unlike Youtube which has become saturated with ads. Videos easily embed into websites, email, or social media. This is the highest quality video product on the market.
Vimeo does not have the search engine force of Youtube and unfortunately does not play within an email but opens in a new window. Hopefully something can be done about the latter.
I really like the non-filtering aspect of Vimeo - they in essence let you upload and post anything you want when you have a Pro account. Because they do not get the volume of hits YouTube gets, your videos are less likely to get nitpicked to death by automatic filters that sometimes call claim to something that is definitely not owned by someone else. I've stopped posting my videos on YouTube for the most part because of their constant unwarranted, incorrect claims on MY OWN material. With Vimeo, this is not an issue.
Their are only a couple of drawbacks. The first is Vimeo's processing time. Once a video is uploaded, it seems like it takes a very long to post once it's processed on Vimeo's side. The longer the video, the longer the processing (obviously), but it does seem to lag behind YouTube and Daily Motion. Still, the service and quality Vimeo offers is far superior...and again, that's because you pay for it. But I have no problems with paying because the service and quality are so good. The second issue is minor - if you want your videos to reach the widest audience, the typical search engines (Google, Yahoo, etc.) do not seem to pick up the Vimeo links as often as their YouTube results. Again, this is a minor issue for me.
Definately an alternative to Youtube without the advertisement and the restrictions on so many levels.
Did not develop fast enough to catch up with youtube but now I would say I would bet on Vimeo more than Youtube.
Video Quality is superb! YouTube has nothing on Vimeo video compression.
Expensive... I don't need anyone else to access the account just the analytics. So for this Price tag gets really expensive. Wish it was part of the Plus+ plan.
This service is incredibly beneficial towards the work that our team produces. It is a professional person's YouTube, but on steroids. The review tool is an incredible feature that has helped us work through edit revisions in a streamlined and transparent way, ultimately minimizing the amount of unnecessary work we used to waste time doing.
It's something that you have to budget in appropriately, but the cost is worth the value.
I like that when you upload videos to this site you retain copyright ownership as opposed to Youtube who owns everything you upload.
The user interface is not the easiest to deal with and some of the settings for video encoding are limited.
I love Vimeo's clean modern look, it's simple yet powerful interface, and streaming quality. The privacy features and embedding controls are top-notch and make it easy to upload videos for a variety of uses for our clients.
The 5gb limit per week on the plus plan seems a little arbitrary and restrictive. Most of the time, that's plenty for our uses, but every once in a while it's an issue. A monthly cap would be much more friendly, especially for users who upload more sporadically.
The best part about this is you get way more control over how your video is displayed when embedding it on a page. You can cut out all the junk around the video like the play bar and tite and place a clean looking video on a page on your site or landing page.
Some on-site editing options would be nice.
Vimeo Pro is a godsend for anyone in video production, such as myself. Unlike YouTube, Vimeo allows you to post videos in their original quality without any of the weird codecs/converting that YouTube applies to your content. I also love the fact that you can allow downloads from the video page, and the ability to upload a replacement video while retaining your likes and comments is by far my favorite feature.
My only complaint is the pricing. While there are multiple tiers, I wish that some of the lower priced options allowed you to upload a larger amount of content. I've also had times where the Vimeo servers don't respond and result in weird errors (like multiple uploads of the same video), but these have been very infrequent lately.
We have been using Vimeo for your business for three years now and have never had any complaints. I work for a television news website and sometimes we need to upload additional video that our individual system does not support. That's when we turn to Vimeo. All of the videos we've uploaded have been crystal clear.
The only real complaint we have is that we tend to run out of storage space each week. Also, we wish there was a way to remove the large title off the top of the screen. An option to make it smaller or remove it altogether would be nice.
Ability to make folders with passwords.
Poor tech support, slow response to customer needs, crappy app and even after you remove it from a mobile device you get prompted every time you go to play a video to download the crappy app. Inability to navigate and do all the things you do on a full browser on mobile. Slow, slow results of large showcases or folders. Needs a way to load these first as a list instead of a million images that take forever to load if you have many showcases. I could go on. I pay for many accounts that we’ve had for years and I’m tired of paying money for lack of support.
Reliability, Speed and uptime were my main point considering vimeo. Never had a problem with the hosting whatsoever. It helps me post to different social media profiles like youtube, facebook and linkedin which saves my time. It allows me to add different description for different profiles. Add tags and upload custom thumbnail for youtube works right inside vimeo so I don't need to open my youtube again to add all the video info.
Need an option to add playlists for different topics. Maybe they should provide some more storage in the pro plan.
Their customer service is lacking. They take too long to respond and are not very helpful. I don't need their help too often - but I did have a billing issue for several weeks with no assistance from their tech department.
Among what I like most about this platform is the possibility of managing your content, with custom url, upload updates, privacy settings, download, etc. Personally and professionally I love it.
I can't find something negative. Vimeo has always been a solid solution with few improvements over time.
Pro is a really great option for small groups and individual professionals that need to upload, house, and share their media. Provided you keep your content to 20GB or less weekly, it's a very cost effective solution! Probably best suited to those creating several short HD videos weekly, or those creating a couple HD videos weekly.
With the 20GB weekly cap, you need to be aware of the quality of video you're capturing and then the output. Our org had to upgrade to another plan based on upgrades to our video equipment to film everything in 4k, and also based on the number of larger videos we're launching each week to a large org. Honestly, the only other reason to upgrade to a higher tier plan are the other features and livestreaming if that becomes a need.
Easy to use, quality is really nice. Prefer it over YouTube. I like the variety of videos is as great mixture
Nothing just keep what they’re doing and they’ll get more positive reviews. YouTube is starting to suck
For me vimeo is the biggest and best online video platform available. You can upload content for free, find videos of unquestionable quality that are not available anywhere else. It's quite comprehensive, with a tab just for reference search, another for tutorial courses, among other amazing functions. The website design is beautiful, clean and functional, making it an excellent choice for creating an audiovisual portfolio or even browsing for inspiration.
There is no aspect I don't like about Vimeo, it is a very complete platform. For content producers looking to viralize their videos, you may want to look for other spaces that are stronger for this purpose.
Vimeo Pro allows us much more storage than we had with the lower version, a feature we needed. Also, the Vimeo Pro live streaming is easier to use than ANY other service we have used. We usually do mulitcamera productions when we stream live, so we are coming out of a switcher. Vimeo handles the streams with no problems.
Vimeo Pro is costly. Whereas we pay a good amount of money for various softwares, Vimeo Pro is one that we debated whether it was worth it. So far, so good.
Professionals need this. This allows others the showcase their previous pieces of work. It's the standard for creatives and the paid membership is worth it.
To be honest, there isn't alot to complain about. My biggest issue is with the pricing. If it was a bit cheaper I'd be happy. You get what you pay for.
The lack of storage on the free version is very limiting.
Vimeo’s settings interface is easy to use - especially when you can create your own setting templates for various projects. I got Vimeo Pro to host course videos back in 2015 and still use them. Most platforms still require a 3rd party video host and Vimeo has been flawless to privately host course videos.
I wish the price was a bit lower, especially now that more course platforms host video. Still, I use Vimeo regularly and have zero complaints about how it serves our needs.
Vimeo is the rock of our video production team as far as delivering files. We love the wide variety of options we have for displaying, sharing, embedding, and downloading files. If you're a serious video producer who delivers a lot of video files, you'll need to be using Vimeo to manage your workflow. An additional favorite feature is the ability to upload directly from Dropbox, which I use all the time.
It's hard to find flaws- I would say that sharing collections with "team members" has been a little clunky and inconvenient for us, and I haven't yet found an effective solution for sharing a group of private videos at once instead of copying the individual links.
Vimeo gives insights on engagement and tracks valuable data from viewers such as viewer location. We were able to confirm the engagement of our staff based on how much of each video was watched and from what branch location. Replacing video feature without having a URL change of the video has been a huge plus for updating online training materials.
There was a time when the player settings changed the quality of the video based on network speed. I'm not sure if this is ongoing. As admins of a learning management system, we received some complaints about "blurry videos" which was a result of the automatic reduction in the quality. As an admin, I had to customize the embed codes to lock in the higher quality.
Although the service is of high quality, the cost of Vimeo is still very high!
Vimeo is fairly inexpensive for storing videos. There is also a lot of added functionality like the ability to stop (or make it very difficult) people from downloading your videos.
For such a large software company Vimeo tends to have lots of UI bugs and a clunky overall interface.
Vimeo is a professional, industry standard which stands out leagues above Youtube or hulu or any other streaming service.
-Poor pricing model
The compression is one that doesn't hurt the quality of the film. You have a safe, more professional place to house your videos to share on your website, or with clients. It is perfect for any professional video maker out there.
The problems I had at the beginning have since been fixed so as of now I have no problems!
Popularity and support of the Vimeo platform is not as widespread or robust compared to certain competitors. Processing time for videos can also take a while after upload. There is also a restriction on how much you can upload in total or per week, depending on your subscription plan.
The features are great: custom thumbnails, closed captioning, only embedding on certain sites, different options for when the video is complete, etc.
It's a little hard to find menu options. I think the layout has changed recently, so it's somewhat confusing trying to find options that have moved. Not horrible, just a little inconvenient.
What I like most about Vimeo is that my clients have the ability to download the videos from my account via link when it is approved.
What I like least is that my storage per week changes if i upload the same video again with a minor change via same link.
I love the simplicity that Vimeo has engineered into the backend of their platform while maintaining vast customization options. Everything is easy to find, easy to learn, and easy to customize. It’s very user-intuitive and you can tell a lot of thought and effort has gone into making it that way.
The search feature on the front end has much to be desired. I’ve never really been able to get the hang of it. Maybe I’m doing it wrong, but it doesn’t seem nearly as effective as YouTube’s searching, for example. In the very least, it’s not as user-intuitive.
Vimeo pro offers a generous weekly upload capacity and some nice features built in to help us organize our films. We like the film community aspect of Vimeo Pro and online interaction that it provides as well as the options it allows us for sharing and embedding our films. VimeoPro also prioritizes playback quality, if possible, over adjusting quality for bandwidth.
The only con I have for VimeoPro is related to it's strength of playback quality -- because of this, we sometimes field complaints from people who view our content from areas where they have little or no access to high bandwidth from their ISP...so video content from Vimeo tends to pause more often to catch up to their download speeds.
Not really any cons, but I do prefer Wistia better from the content marketing standpoint. Their player looks better and has some very cool features that Vimeo doesn't. But Vimeo is much more versatile.
The ONE area where YouTube surpasses Vimeo is storage space. While YouTube allows a virtually unlimited amount of uploads, the pricing on Vimeo depends on how much you'd like to upload. I think it is worth it, but some users might not like having to pay for the ability to upload more video.
Untill stop working on Apple Tv the product was good.
Typically not blocked on corporate firewalls, fully customizable embedded player, high quality playback (does not force down sampling), good analytics, and review/feedback system when you are capturing feedback from several people. While these are all great, the most important feature has to be the ability to replace a video with an updated one while keeping the same URL!
Would benefit from better mobile experience (perhaps an app?) or the ability to add tracking codes to urls. The end screen functionality is fantastic, but only works in the embedded player. I wish it would work on the regular player as well.
I started off using Vimeo on their free level, as I was developing my video series and audience. After about six months I decided I was ready to upgrade to their pay service for the extra features they had. The features are there, the speed is there, the quality is good. I enjoy their robust features that I knew I would eventually grow into needing and using, which over the past few months I have. Plus, Vimeo has a good reputation and its name alone lends a good deal of credibility - which I think is well deserved. Well worth the money. (Their pricing is fair and upfront.)
I found the learning curve somewhat a challenge to find and implement the features thats I needed. I think they assume a bit too much of the end user of how their system works. Some features seem a bit out of place and took some clicking around to find. My focus is on making videos and publishing them, some of the technical back end features were difficult to find. A lot of hunting around to find a specific setting or feature. It's not as straight forward as I thought it would be - but this can be a down side to an otherwise feature-rich and robust software package.
I like that Vimeo seamlessly provides a way for us to not only host our videos but manage them as well.
The search feature is not very easy to use so it is sometimes seems impossible to locate a video by search.
Vimeo's privacy settings allow us to keep our videos private and safe from people downloading them in our paid courses - whereas with YouTube - people can steal or easily download your videos. It's cheap and easy to use - very nice!
Very minor... but it took a while to learn how to use the settings to keep our videos secure.
Vimeo is a great video hosting platform for the cost. It has rich features inclusion very good embedding tools and stellar security. It provides good analytics on your video usage. All for a really good price. Every uploaded video is split into multiple versions so your user will have the best option displayed based on their device (why download a 1920x1080 video on a phone?).
The one thing that vimeo doesn't have that YouTube does is auto generating CC.
Now, you can share videos with multiple reviewers who can click and comment as the video plays. All the comments show up in chronological order on the right side. Great for logging, editing, graphic additions, and captions.
All of the 'complaints' I had last year have been remedied with user interface updates. I'm completely happy with this product.
I haven't gotten used to the new default homepage yet. Would like to figure out how to customise it to go straight to a list layout of my videos.
Occasionally, the upload will fail and replacing the video will not work, making it necessary to start over with a fresh link.
This isn't necessarily something I dislike but just a truth to share after videos are final my teams and I have always moved our videos to YouTube and social media vs. hosting them on Vimeo since YouTube is more universally used. My teams have known you can link Vimeo videos to YouTube, etc. and even initiate paid advertising through the Vimeo portal but for videos on YouTube and other channels but that always seemed like too much work / not worth it when you can go handle business with YouTube directly.
There aren't any standout cons for me. The only hardship is that while the value for the annual fee is great, it is a bit costly for a freelancer on a budget.
Vimeo Pro is, in my experience, the lowest compression video streaming service for professional use (other than just sending files directly to clients). Vimeo is a great place to hold reels, demos, and featurettes to showcase your work, as it definitely carries a quality edge over the competition. Videos look less compressed, and resolution/codec support is quite robust.
Vimeo is expensive for the service provided. Yes, Vimeo provides low compression video streaming, which matters when trying to make your best impression with clients or partners, but the price seems high when the chief competitors are free.
